Beer with or without foam?
    #2749963 - 05/31/04 04:17 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

A glass of beer should have 2 horizontal fingers of foam IMO. A beer without foam is like a woman without breasts.

You can get a new beer if you don't get some nice foam on top of your beer in Holland, but when I was in America..... I got a beer without any foam  :projectile:

That's just disgusting for me....

What's normal in your country and what do you like?
Foam
You may choose only one
foam
no foam

Any healthy, well made beer should have a head on it. Who wants their beer looking like a urine specimen?

I want foam, but just to know the beer was just tapped. after half a glass there isn't any foam left, but do you care?

and less foam = more beer, therefore I want only a litle foam

Foam on beer is like breasts... Very nice to look at... feel great and soft... taste like nothing and after a half life there isn't any left.

This usually sounds pretty gross to most people, but I like my beer no foam, warm and just a little flat.

Wowa, that is weird.  But warm flat beer is better than cold flat beer.

I like the foam, it makes the beer look fresh and nice.  Two horizontal fingers(?), I like 3-5 horizontal fingers.  The foam doesnt really taste bad IMO, thought it doesnt really taste good, its ok.

The coolest looking beer, a pint of Guiness with ALOT of foam... but for some reason i cant stand the taste of it, though it looks sooo good.  Killkenny looks similair and is mmmmmm.... good.

if its really good beer, warm means you can taste it better, i had a really dark, nutty scottish ale served less-than-cold at this microbrewery on vancouver island that was one of the best beers ive ever had. but if it isnt really good beer---then

the secret to a good beer is the 'fire' we call it
you know those little bubbles that keep coming up from the bottom of the glass.....also a good beer will ring the glass with a little foam with each sip so your glass looks striped when its finished
our bars won't put a drink in front of you unless it has a decent head about 1 cm thick

the less head on a beer, the more drunk you get

the carbonation in the beer governs how much you piloric sphincter opens. Thats the little valve on the bottom of your stomach, and the more open it is, the more beer enters your intestines to be absorbed.  Therfor, the more head you have on your beer, the less carbonation there is in the beer, and you'll get less drunk.  To fix this, pour your beers into the cups with the cup tilted, and pour the beer on the side of the glass so it's not splashing so much.  I hope I explained that well.  ::cheers::

If I'm not mistaken, "how to avoid foam" is basic knowledge.

Lager is meant to have a head and should be cold,

Beer which depends on the kind of ale it is can or can not have a head, can be cold, can be warm, can depend on strength, the fullness, the hopps.

doesnt really make a difference anyways, foam is simply 2/3 beer and 1/3 air.

However 1/2 inch of foam is considered the correct amount of foam for serving in a bar or restaurant.

If you get a beer with no foam, just take a straw and stir it a little and voila, there's your foam:) Although a bartender would probably look at you funny if you did this in front of them lol.

Also, as I understand it, the little bubbles coming up from the bottom of a glass like sprite are indicative of a dirty glass, not a tastier beer.
