And yet, though utterly broke and placing bets with your mouth that you can't cash with your ass, you agree to donate to the Shroomery.  It's good to see a sense of shame.  It's so rare in the young.

:kingtard:

I wonder if, in the process of being so needlessly childish, the thought ever occurred to you that you are flat wrong and that reality doesn't fit within your narrow view. I have the money now, I had it a week ago, I had it two weeks ago, I had it a month ago. I agreed to donate an additional $10, beyond the amount from my wager with willshire, after you whined like a little baby about a bet with me that never existed. I know that, when one of your main objectives in entering into discussion here is simply to attempt to insult people, you don't really think things through, but hopefully you can expand your frame of mind to the point that the thought would occur that a $10 bet on the Shroomery isn't anywhere near the highest priority for people with a life. I had decided to make my donation at the time I felt was most appropriate, since I've had much more important things to attend to.

I haven't welshed on anything. Your sense of when I should make my donation is irrelevant - I could give a fuck less what you think. :bye:

fireworks: The surge is about Iran. You're right it is primarily the "awakening" in Iraq that has reduced violence dramatically and the Muqtada al-Sadr ceasefires. The surge has helped to reduce some of the violence by preventing roadside bombs, capturing and killing terrorists, backup, etc. But every time you think about Iraq you have to think about Iran. And that is what the surge is about. With 150,000 troops on the ground Iran can't maneuver. With permanent bases in Iraq, Iran will have a harder time to maneuver. If Iran chooses to increase the chaos, we have 150,000 troops, and an air campaign warning them not to. If troops withdraw, if the threat of war is removed, Iran will fill the vacuum in Iraq. We wait for negotiations. We don't want substantial Iranian influence, they do. Each side tries to intimidate, show off their brinkmanship until they have some sort of advantage at the negotiation table.

Today John McCain and Dick Cheney were in Iraq. Why? As a warning to Iran that the same polices under Bush are going to be the same polices under McCain. That if you think permissive policies are coming don't feel so sure.

If you think Obama has the better policy in Iraq, and timetables for withdrawal is appropriate then that is fine. You sound like a responsible person. We just disagree. You at least acknowledged what a premature withdrawal may look like. I on the other hand feel that timetables will work against us, as it gives our enemies and Iran the advantage. However, as I stated before, Obama is not stupid. If you believe we will be out of Iraq within 16 months, I am afraid you'll going to be disappointed. It's not going to happen (and if you listen carefully to Obama, he hints at that). No one, excluding Ron Paul, would be so reckless and put our country in such danger to just ruthlessly adhere to a timetable. I would expect to hear something like the situation in Iraq has evolved and so have the polices sort of doing a dance around the timetable never fully adhering to it. What sort of president wouldn't listen to their generals?

Perhaps what this is really come down to is that I think that we have a chance on succeeding in Iraq. It will be a struggle and we may not succeed but I'm willing to try.

By the way, yesterday General Petraeus hinted he would resign if the newly elected President asked him to prematurely withdraw.

klimt, who tells you the surge is about Iran? Smells like bullshit. Even if it's true, Iran wouldn't negotiate with Bush, he's the biggest laughing stock on the world stage. No one has done more to damage our image.

That's interesting. I could make a very strong argument that the arch pussy Jimmy Carter did far more damage by NOT fighting back against those who attacked our soil. When you are perceived as weak you will be attacked. When you are perceived as strong, you are far less likely to be attacked. Psych 101. Jimmy Carter made the whole country look pussified. Thanks Jimmy, you fucking twat.

Oh, you stupid bastard.

While The Peanut Farmer wasn't perfect, it is an undeniable fact that we never would have had to deal with his presidency if the preceding Republican administration hadn't proved to be the biggest group of incompetent crooks and bumbling liars this side of Moscow.

Maybe there wouldn't be such a swing to far-left extremism if you didn't keep fucking up the country every 20 years when you manage to scrape and claw your way to power out of whatever primordial ooze your party hatches it's candidates from.

The previous Republican administration, in case you were unaware, was the Ford administration. I know of no examples or allegations of theft or thuggery from them. As to the penultimate administration, it is true that Agnew was a crook. Milhouse? Nope. Just a paranoid moron. Accent BOTH words in paranoid moron. Then again, are you paranoid if everyone is out to get you? Democrats had controlled both chambers for quite some time. No excuse for his behavior, though. Which party got us into 'Nam anyway?
It is certainly true that national disgust with Nixon made it impossible for a Republican to win but did the Dems have to nominate a fucking retard? They're doing it again, by the way. An election they should have put in their pocket is going to slip away because they only have shit for candidates. Or is that shit for brains? I vote the latter.

As a history lesson for you, the country has been controlled by Dems for most of recent history. You know, the left. It is only a recent artifact that Conservatives have come back at all (W is not quite a Conservative, what with his compassion and all). Let us speak of primordial ooze, if you will. Johnson; so reviled he would not even try for a second term: Carter; possibly the worst ever and slaughtered by....Ronald Reagan?: Clinton; impeached. Please spare me the dumb shit, just make a rational point somewhere.

Clinton, despite being impeached is the most revered president of my lifetime. (Yes, You're Old, I Know. Sucks, huh?)

Republicans upon leaving office are seldom seen as anything except power hungry thugs who have bankrupted the country on dubious grounds.

The current Bush, for instance.

I suppose you think that Barry is centrist in spite of the fact that he is the furthest left Senator out of 100.

Not really. Taking votes, categorizing them, and then formulating a position mathematically just doesn't seem a very effective way to find a true sense of a politician's idealogical standing. From what he has stated on the matter, there were simply two votes that gave him that status, and those votes in particular didn't sound very liberal.
