Being celibate
    #8109796 -

After too many years of letting my libido make my choices for me, many of which have been bad choices, I am considering becoming celibate. At least for a little while.

This isn't about not being able to get laid, that's always been pretty easy for me.

I just seem to always pick a guy by how great the sex is. Not by the really important things. So with being single in my near future I've started considering this option.

So guys and gals who have made this a conscious choice, tell me 'bout it please. Is it really hard to give up the nookie?

It's hard, but worth it if it makes you respect yourself more.

Being celibate is just as much a bad idea as being a slut.

I agree, it's hard at first but its worth it to know you can be free of your hormones.

thats the way relationships nowadays work sadly. people only seem to care about how the sex is , i mean , if you have the rgeatest man in the world , but he doesnt please u sexually , you will leave him for a not so great guy who IS great in bed. Its sad to see that this is the way of the world , but what can you do?

But...
If you dont respect yourself dont expect to recieve it from anyone else.
I think its a great idea that you are going to be celibate for a while and hope it works for you

Nowadays, sadly?

None of us would be here if it wasn't for our parents fucking. And probably fucking a few times before conception. Fucking is the most important thing we can do ever.

Look, miss "Oh, my relationships are terrible" It's not because of your self perception that you're promiscious, it's because relationships can and do fail. Not masturbating and not having sex, whilst highly touted by pious types, is downright unhealthy and unnatural. If you deny what's in your nature, you will never be happy.

Heartbreak is a terrible thing, it's the worst feeling I have ever had. And you know what? It makes people irrational. I want you to not worry about this, to give it some time, and if you think it's important in a few months time, you'll be more objective about it.

If not, I hear speed is very good for supressing sexual desire. SSRI's like citalopram can permantently reduce sexual pleasure and appetite.

and it can also be a terrible trap to get you to indulge in your base life destructing worldly desires.  whats your point?

most people don't use it that way as is painfully evident

i can't speak from a female perspective, but i've been practicing coitus reservatus(no ejaculating during sexual activity) for the past 5 months or so and i'm absolutely in love i will never go back to former ways

ejaculating is not only physically draining(craving sleep right after) but extremely emotionally depleting.  if you drain your energy in this way over a long enough period of time you become indifferent to your partner - after i noticed this it scared the shit out of me... totally lost interest in someone that i really appreciate... i knew something wasn't right and i've discovered much more fulfilling methods

i HIGHLY suggest the following book for females...

http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Love-Through-Tao-Cultivating/dp/0935621059

i haven't read it, but his book for males (found here - http://www.amazon.com/Taoist-Secrets-Love-Cultivating-Sexual/dp/0943358191/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204930143&sr=1-1 ) is freakin' gold so my guess would be it's just as packed with exceptionally practical and beneficial advice.  i can't even consider going back to my old ways, it's doesn't compare in the slightest

I was celibate for several years, and I highly recommend it. It made an enormous difference in my ability to view relationships as optional, and increased my sense of self-worth.

When I decided to have sex again, it was not because I missed sex, or was longing for a relationship, but because it was a natural progression of the friendship I had developed with my new partner. (We waited 6 months after we started dating.)

I would not advise you to put your sexuality on hold, however. Continue to be sexual and sensual with yourself. Learn more about your body, and what really pleases you. Focus on loving and pleasuring yourself--it can be AT LEAST as good as sex, especially if self-consciousness about body issues has interfered with your pleasure during partner sex.

I think choosing not to have sex is an insult to those who can't get any.Like throwing away food or lighting cigars with $100 bills.

It's in poor taste.

I will gladly donate all the sex I did not have while celibate to those who can't get any.

Go celibate, absolutely. There is no need for fucking, and you sure as hell don't want to become dependent on it.

If I read your post you had a lot of sex already so its not feeling insecure, so why the hell not. Try celibacy, you can always decide to go sexual again.

A lot of people are dependent on sex. It causes suffering when they're single and can put strain on a relationship. Sex is wonderful, but you shouldn't become addicted to it.

Just do it, you have nothing to lose and in fact you reduce your chance to get a bad STD.
