Monotub failure.

Greetings all,

Im currently fruiting an 18 gallon monotub. The procedure was as follows:

PE multi-spore to WBS in quart Jars.
Monotub made to MMs Specs.
Fully colonized WBS spawned to HMC compost at 1:2 ratio, approximately 4" deep.
Incubated at room temperature.
Once fully colonized, cased with pH buffered, pasteurized 50/50+ at a depth of 1/2".
Once a uniform amount of mycelium approached the surface, it was exposed to a 125w, 6400k cfl light on a 12/12 cycle.

The pinset was even, however, the majority of the pins aborted, and fully matured fruits were no more than an inch tall.

My only concern through this process was a moderate volume of metabolic fluid on the surface of the substrate after colonization, before casing.

By contrast, a much smaller tub, about shoebox size, was prepared at the same time and is seeing remarkable growth and fruiting.

There was no external influence on my part, aside from spawning and casing.

Ill add pictures later, but your suggestions would be great!

I think thats a little much on the light, but Im new to this so I dunno...but still I think thats a little strong

I've never heard of a CFL bulb that has that high a wattage. 200 is as high as they come. The type of bulb and how far away from the tub it is will play a role in this mystery. If indeed you you have a 400w CFL, could you provide a pic of it or a link to the product.

He is probably using multiple CFL's. My only question is WHERE did people get the idea that growing shrooms was like growing weed?

Your question is unfounded. It is only 125w, used in tandem with my small greenhouse for legitimate plants.

I apologize for the incorrect light information. The tub is in a regular desk chair pushed in front of my 4 tier greenhouse, within the light of the cfl

they are common fixtures for outdoor and car port lighting. i have a few 750w in my shed as well. there a horizontal fixture and they usualy have a photo sensor for dusk to dawn lighting. they work good for vegitative growth with photosynthetic plants. they have them at home depot

although i highly doubt that lighting had anything to do with the mass abort I would look to fae or humidity levels

So long as you use light that is in the "cool" blue spectrum you will be fine. Just don't keep it so close to the tub. Although CFL's don't produce much heat, they do produce some heat and it you have an enclosed tub, heat will be trapped in the chamber.

My light is affixed to the ceiling, So the distance is approximately 6 feet. My second tub is in the greenhouse, closer to the light, supplied with an ultrasonic. My concerns at this point are:

-overlay
-lack of moisture
-unknown nematode infestation.

went out and looked at the box, they are 80w cfl's putting out the light equivalent of a 750w bulb.

So, aside from the thread derailing, I'll suggest lack of moisture, though I think it would be hard for 4 inches of poo to dry out in the spawn run.
