I like metal halite for its bigger lights and better color on the plant..hps seem to give the color a less faint type of color

Id say mh blue spectrum for vegitive growth.
I don't know much about salvia but I know weed.

dont go with the cheapest thing possible, it is the worst way to go . you are better off getting a quality system or even better a digital system.

the cheep systems use more power, die faster and are LOUD HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM


you will spend more in power pill in the first 6 months then you would to just buy a nice system.

Good choice on the mh.
Hps do have some white n blue spectrum but mh has WAY more.
as for those clippings......

then what about the mh crossover lamps that are 4000k? they supposedly give proper spectrum for growing and blooming, but im skeptical.... anyone use these?

Why bother with a digi ballast and nice reflector and then cut your self short by choosing a sub standard lamp?

I just got my first HID a few hours ago. Picked up an HPS ballast and lamp with an MH conversion bulb (You can find ones for cheap, $25-35ish, but cheaper = lower quality). This means the MH bulb works in a HPS ballast.

If you wanna save money, you can put together your own ballast. Google for HPS ballast kit, and for the Overgrow archives, they have step-by-step tutorials on setting it all up. It's actually pretty simple, but be sure to buy a case for the ballast if you go this route. You don't want that exposed.

Oh, and on vendors: My experience with InsideSun wasn't great. I know Mike is busy and all, and InsideSun is his side project, but the low prices aren't worth the long shipping time and piss-poor customer service. Why not delegate?

I turned off all the lights in my house, lit up the HPS. 10 minutes later, my entire house is a hideously bright orange. I actually intended to be in the same room as the light (it'll mainly be on MH, not so ugly), but even light reflected of a diffused surface is too bright.

well, if the grow area is enclosed, you dont have to worry about the lighting being ugly, just patch up light leaks with duct tape,so u really just have to bother with which light the plants can use more of
panda film does a good job keeping light in from what ive heard
