new jar with growth!

ok i innoculated one jar this week as a test and its been about 3 or 4 days and there is already growth!. not a lot, but i can see some mycellium growing so i guess its going good so far, comments?

Well, assuming that this is your first time trying this, that's good news. It means that your substrate is nutritious, airy, and wet enough to support mycelial growth. The question that remains is your sterile technique, and you won't know about that until the jar colonizes completely (or doesn't).

I thought you could usually see or smell contamination within the first week? Do you really have to wait until the jar is fully colonized to know for sure?

Not really - contams can spring up in basically any uncolonized patch of nutritive substrate. You're right, it's a lot less likely if the mycelium is colonizing well and you haven't seen anything in a week or so, but you can't be certain until the jars are done, IMHO.

cool, well i didnt think that was out of the ordinary. just excited since my first jar is showing growth. plus ive heard people waiting a week before any growth at all. thanks for the info too
