Success with the Quart Jar Way-Revisited?

the reason i'd like to try this method is because i already have everything i need for it right now, no need to buy anything else. But ive only seen ppl fail with this method. has anyone had any success with it? is it worth trying, or should i wait till i can get some vermiculite?

I would think that rice would kind-of stick together, making it difficult for the mycelium to colonize and hard to shake. You might want to break it up with some vermiculite.

I can definitely see where you would have sterility problems with that tek. I would instead use BRF/VERM or Rye Berries up to 1/3 of the jar, wait until colonized, then drop about 1" of damp vermiculite or a potting soil/vermiculite mix into the jar to act as a casing layer. Continue to keep in the dark until casing is colonized. Then replace the metal disk part of the lid with a coffee filter and loosely tape an oven bag over the top of the jar. To air out and hydrate, just lift up the bag, mist inside the bag a little, and tape back on. Enjoy!

thanx for the tip, u probably just saved me a spore syringe. i guess the answer for me boils down to this: go downtown and get some fuckin vermiculite!

could be just me, but that dosn't seem likely to work, fana. Have you actually done this? as for mixing whole rice and verm?!? Have you done that either? Maybe i've been out of the loop for too long. just soak and rinse your rice and it shouldn't stick too bad. stamments whacks his jars on a bald car tire, but maybe you have something similar. I have only had success with quart jars with filters, but we'll see if the polyfill works too.

buy some rye berries they're like fifty cents a lb.

and really easy.

if you do the tek exactly like it says.

by the way i am using polyfill.

a friend has some jars fully colonized right now. innoc them the 2nd.

go for the qts.
