Jar growth pattern
    #510680 - 01/05/02 12:18 AM (22 years, 11 months ago)

I have 8 1/2 pint jars inoculated and have been sitting in a temperature of 80-85 for 18 days. 5 of the jars have a bright white growth shooting out in lines, similar to what a spore print looks like but more filled in. the other three have a more dull white appearance growing in a cloud cluster formation almost like a cobweb even though I dread using the word cobweb as description is it possible that it truly is cobweb? The cloud clusters get really thick in the more colonized areas to where it doesn't look like cob web just solid white icing. I hope I'm making sense to you and if you could tell me which one is the desired. Thanks

this is rhizomorphic growth. your jars are showing very healthy growth. these strands are like long arms reaching out to colonize more substrate. you should be pleased with such strong growth.

Which kind? the clustering cloud ones that I am leary of being cobweb or the sporeprint look alike. Which one is healthy, or both. The different types are distinctively different.

hmmmm. well. the 'cloud' ones could be cobweb. cobweb is very light and airy looking, and has a gray tint to it. pictures would be nice. i can't be for sure if it is all healthy though.

My first batch all looked like the cloudy cobweb ones and all failed so I assume these are cob web but the other bright white ones, do they sound like true heathy growth?

the others, i can only assume about their goodness. but just let the others grow for the hell of it. if the white growth dominates and a little cobweb is left, you can treat it with hydrogen peroxide.
