binge eating disorder, very frustrating
    #7787685 -

I feel like i am at a loss as to what to do with this anymore. I binge (eating excessively beyond my calorie limit) like 5 days a week. I dealt with this last year when i was in my first year of college, then in august i began to make big strides with it and by october i thought i was done with it. then, ever since thanksgiving i have relapsed i have gone from around 116 lbs to probably near 135. i feel horrible. i keep telling myself that i wont binge again and then when im in a situation with food its like something comes over me and i just stuff my face. i desperately wish i could have a healthy, balanced relationship with food. i feel that if i don't get this under control again that its just going to spiral further out of control. i find that the social situations i put myself in affect it a lot. from august and into the fall, i took off a semester from school and i spent a lot of time with myself. i ate very healthfully, lots of fresh raw foods, mostly vegan, no refined sugar, no junk pretty much at all really. i felt progressively better and better and i wish i could get back to that stage. ugh i dont know what to do. im sitting here feeling uncomfortable and gross. hopefully tomorrow wont be another day where i will start off eating properly and then end up binging at one point in the day. why does food hold so much control over me?

You're not able to stop eating chaotically exactly because you feel gross.
When you feel beautiful and glowing you can't do that to yourself anymore.
The answer is more than obvious and easier than you let yourself believe: start eating healthy again, refuse to eat crap, refuse to think about eating crap and refuse any kind of crap in your life, not only the ones related to food.
As a result you'll start to feel more and more confident in yourself, more and more empowered to live healthy.

Do you have a diet in order? Read up on nutrition, then plan yourself out a diet making sure to get enough fats, proteins, macro and micronutrients. Then make sure you're eating enough. Even if you're looking to loose weight.

Then look into any emotional problems you might have.

Craving is like a reed that swells. When you give into craving it gets bigger and bigger, making the craving more intense. If one lets go of craving the cravings go away. However if you only let go of food craving and not other cravings your craving for food will probably come back. Craving is a disease our race has. It has been flowing in it for thousands of years. Its why were falling apart. The only way to conquer craving is pure undisturbed love. Renunciation of pleasure before love.
Google video Sri Sri Shankar. He talk a lot about craving. Pretty much any spiritualist will talk about craving.

Quititing your eating disorder is like walking a 50 mile hike through hell. Are you willing to do it, or would you rather cling to this nice shiney object, you found in hell? It will never go away until you make the walk.

You can do it!

Be mindfull.

I think it only works the other way around.
First fixing the emotional, after that the rest will self arrange.

There's no sense of time there.

I meant do both things, not one then the other after a couple of weeks.

Hey, I've gone through the same thing.  There were times this year where I literally felt it was impossible to stop myself from putting a piece of food into my mouth, so that I was actually standing there watching myself eat when I didn't even want to!  It was near-schizophrenic.

MushroomTrip's post is right on.  Developing loving-kindness toward oneself, and most importantly having patience with oneself when one makes unhealthy decisions, is key.  Because it seems like there are inevitable stretches of our lives where we lose control of sense-cravings, we have to become more aware of the sources of these cravings and learn to 'smooth them out', talk positively to ourselves about them, make firms short-term plans for changing our habits, and not telling ourselves how stupid and pathetic we are every time we end up in a situation where we indulge in excess.

Good luck!

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Some good stuff here - definitely look into your emotional health. Even minor changes such as after doing yoga majorly influences my cravings.

Do you have a sense of satisfaction in life? Are you doing something which holds your attention and appreciation? If you answered no to these questions, you may be overindulging with your senses because your lacking in enjoyment of the heart and mind.

Also, like Draigan mentioned, don't give in. Lately I have been trying to do something that I call "fulger" where I try and stay inbetween hunger and being full, where I have no sensation whatsoever related to food or drink. I don't eat large portions and I don't let myself get extremely hungry either. I eat small quantities regularly throughout the day and drink plenty of water.

The mind is a creative tool. It searches to protect you, through message sensations(feelings). It is no different than a computer, you need to make sure its anti-virus program is in check and that it doesnt have a script that limits your experience, because of to much precaution.

And remember the computer does not appear to respond to words of anger and frustration - just give it input, in the form of new meanings that you know to be true and its messages to you and the limits it lays out for you, will change.

Guilt is an outcome of believing you are the cause of the problems.

Yet, we are not a cause to something, we see is negative or bad - Unless you believe your intentions are directed towards a bad outcome....

Hey, I used to have a problem wth food when I was a teenager. I tried throwing up but that didnt work, so I used to exercise a great deal to lose weight. I used to go on diets but always ended up at the same weight. I was really preoccupied with it. When I got over it was after I read 'the beauty myth' and I saw how exploitative the beauty industry was - huge industry and that it is really oppressive - most women can't acheive the ideal and biology sets a weight for us that it is quite difficult to change. I then became angry and ate whatever for a while and put on a little weight. Then I started asking myself what I needed to eat - ie listening to my body and my level of hunger. I had totally tuned out and didn't know what hunger was before that. Ironically when I stopped worrying about what I was eating and ate what I needed (I didn't discriminate - if I needed a peanut butter sandwich I would eat that and then feel satisfied) I lost weight and was lighter than I was when I worried about it all the time. Now I never think about food and it is very liberating. I mostly eat healthy and I have chocolate and other sweet stuff in moderation.

Computer games don't affect kids. I mean if Pacman affected our generation as kids, we'd all be running around in a darkened room, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.
