Correct me if you are not feeling down, that was just the impression that i got from your post.

The feelings i get are nothing similar to depression. Also it only occurs while alone. I feel great around people.

Well happy to have been corrected then

Boredom is a socially learned phenomenon, i believe at least.  I really doubt that if we didnt have all these distractions around that we would be "bored" ever.

Take up your qualm with society

Well i dislike going to doctors and getting prescribed anything. I like to keep my mental health record crystal clear.

I do have a great deal of trouble focusing. I barely read anymore which i onced loved. When i read books when i start a paragraph i begin thinking about something else while still reading. I will go through half a page like this and then realize and have to re read. This happens every other page or so. Although it never really happens when reading off a computer.

I was never able to learn a second language because i could not pay attention. It was strange in school, i actually wanted to learn another language but i just couldn't. I also have the same troubles in math but i am very very good at math and science so i ended up teaching myself every year's math text starting in high school.

But learning and schooling is a whole different issue. I was never able to learn the way they taught. They called me gifted, but i just think they teach to slow.

I also feel everyone could use a medical dose of amp. Gosh i am such a good student on amps. The notes are so extensive and it really does make you hunger for information.

you're definitely not alone man, everything you just described sounds exactly like the way i am. i was in GT classes also, but had a real problem paying attention in class (constantly daydreaming or doodling). i tried ritalin when i was younger but hated the way it made me feel. it sucks being this way :frown:

Odd - I seem to have the opposite disorder (Bipolarism amongst others ) Being around people seems to disturb me after a while, and I must get away by myself. I'm not anti-social or unfriendly (or at least I don't try to be) but I just can't be around people (especially large groups) for any length of time.

I don't think you have ADD or ADHD.  I think it's quite the opposite:  anxiety.  Anxiety is a result of dopamine levels being higher than usual.  This can result in worrying, boredom, OCD behavior (I was the same way with RPGs back in highschool), and it can also progress into paranoia when left untreated.  I wouldn't be surprised if you also suffer from frequent headaches.  Higher dopamine levels usually means higher blood pressure.

Anyway, if you refuse to seek out meds to correct this imbalance, then the only two things I'd do in your shoes would be to stop smoking herb (a dopamine agonist) and to better my mental health by exercising daily.  But popping a zoloft daily would be much easier.

Hope this helps

Yeah, some people just don't know shit.  Having ADD is cool once you get used to all the odd shit your brain does.  I like being a little fucked in the head and different. :crazy2:  As far as pot and ADD, it depends on the person - it helps some people, but makes it worse for others.

the boredom i face turns into me asking myself mentally over and over "What am i going to do?" I have to plan the next day over and over in my mind even if i have nothing planned. It got to such a bad degree that i would sit in front of this computer for hours asking myself that question over and over. It felt so odd, i didnt want to ask myself that question but i just could not stop.

Neurosis is characterized by the excessive use of energy for unproductive purposes so that personal growth is hindered or stopped.

Neurosis can be caused by many things and can be exhibited in many more ways -- some of which are more disguised under other psychological phenomena than others.

There is nothing wrong with seeking psychiatrical and professional guidance. Everybody, one way or another, can always use a little help here and there.

Best wishes.

i kinda have this shit where i can't not be around people either. like i'll wonder what THEY are doing and I'm missing out on the fun. but i have great people around me so its not horribly hard. plus smoking pot, a little bit, will keep me company. but too much makes the craving for conversation even worse. lol. i live off the phone sometimes.

but i haven't ever heard of someone sitting there and asking themselves what to do for hours on end. i hate the day time. its too short, its too long. the night is my peak hours, when i can do whatever the fuck i want and enjoy it.

I wasn't implying that this behaviour points to Manic depression, but MD's do weird things as well. My family members that are Bi-polar do strange things as well when they are off meds other than just Mania and Depression(reading the dictionary, stop wearing prescription glasses cause they think they dont need them and refuse to use a computer altogether. Just to name a few) .

I still dont really understand what the point of your post is though.

Seriously though one does not need meds to feel fine. Everyone is different. Just because your family member have some problems with bi-polar disorder and do wierd things does not mean that you need to take meds nor does it mean that somone should be giving any advice about the subject.

What do you mean by RPG's?

Agreed. Stop drinking and Stop the marijuana. It will only make things worse. You need to clear your head out by doing things that are good for your brain. Exercise. Take your bike out at sunrise and ride. Take to the beach. Go for a walk in the moonlight. Get out and let your brain get some breathing air. Let your brain circulate. You may fall into a deeper or deep heavy depression or just deep depressing thoughts. But this is a good thing. At this point you need to let that happen. It is normal. Just sit back and try to relax. Try to find out what is fun for you. Try to find things that interest you, but don't feel like you have to unless its imperitive. Just let those thoughts go through you. Eventually you'll be better for it.

Guess what? You don't know anything about my family or any of their disorders. So feel free to quit talking out of your ass. Yes, there are TONS of people who feel bad and can overcome it without the use of meds. What's your point? Effective medicines are just that, effective.
I see far too much "ah man, don't worry it's all good. We all do that occaisonally:" when somebody starts describing bread and butter signs of a mental illness. Denying somebody good advice like seeing a pyschiatrist and getting help is much worse.

We have somebody asking for help and you are telling then to sit tight(people who are seeking help are past that) and go for a bike ride at sunrise? Please.

Thelion, do you not realize that having a family history of a mental disorder increases your chances of having that yourself? My uncle had bipolar disorder, as well as I do. I've found ways to live my life that don't circle around taking pills every day, seeing as they turned me into a different person.

Talking to a medical professional doesn't always help. It hurt me more than it helped, until I asked the right person. My family doctor just wanted to give me pills (something he never does...), and they made my head even worse.

I suggest talking to a psychiatrist. It can be expensive, though. Either way, try to figure things out for yourself. Try taking walks when it's bright outside. Ride your bike. Paint your room a brighter color (this one actually helped me alot, I went from black to baby blue), just try something.
