questions about outdoor patch

My friend's outdoor patch is across the street in some woods, and every house on his street faces that way and are fairly close together. Maybe he's paranoid but he doesn't think it's a good idea to be going over there every day/night. It's been kind of dry lately and it can't be watered everyday.
Anyway, he sprayed some spores on the top layer(liquid grown mycelium in between the first and top layer).. His question is, if the top layer with the spores dries up will they just stay dormant until there is liquid again, or will the spores die?
