Grass hindering outdoor patch pinset?
    #1997340 - 10/10/03 03:24 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Anyone ever seen any instances where grass has overlayed the top part of the patch and restricted mushroom formation or is the fungi strong enough to push thru the grass?

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Most mushrooms will find a hole if there is one..

I magine that some grass could be so dense that it would hamper the pin formation of some species.

I tend to find grass as helping an outdoor pinset, It retains a higher humidity down where the pins will be forming. Mushrooms don't seem to have trouble finding there way out.

Yes, grass helps.  It also provides a 'straw' to pull oxygen into the substrate to aid in pin development.  I've actually planted grass seed in my casing before.  It's something for folks to try.
