Which species/strains work?
Panaelous subulatus. Psilocybe azurescens. Panaeolus cyanescens. Panaeolus cambodginiensis.

WIll any strain of cubensis work?
EQ and PR work well in Georgia climate. All strains of P. Cubensis work, to a varying degree of sucess.

When can I start my own outdoor tek?
For cubensis, the weather should be warm (Warm is comfortable with pants or shorts.) Wait untill temperatures reach a fairly consistant temperature thats above 60 degress. The temperatures should not dip lower than 50 degrees at night.

Where should I select the location?
Shady places work better than locations in full-sun. Higher ground is prefered in [laces that periodically flood; a patch left underwater for too long will drown.

What ratio of spawn to substrate is recomended?
1:10 spawn/bulk substrate works well. But an established colony in any ratio should eventually colonise the entire bed, leave a few larger clumps of spawn when making a bed to ensure this.

Do I need to pasteurize the bedding substrate?
No. The microbial balance you pasteurize substrate for indoor cultivation already exists in nature (outside)

Can I use a cover to increase the temperature/ relative humidity?
A tarp, or an upside-down tupperware or ruubermaid container will work.

When/how often should I water?
Work with your local forecast. Do not let it dry out, but also don't let it get to wet. Add longevity to your patch by watering with poo water (by-product of oven top pasteurization) but do this occasionaly.

How deep should I dig?
Moe reccomends 6 inches. Dig as deep as you want, as this adds to the longevity of the patch.

What kind of substrate can I spawn to?
Leached cow poo is arguably the best. Horsepoo, straw... Horsepoo mixed with straw works well also. In addition to that, Rabbit, Buffalo, Elaphant, Moose, Elk, anything that is bovine. They are what they eat; so look for vegetarian animals that eat rye, oats or straw etc.

Can I use vermiculite/perlite or water grabbers to maintain moisture?
The materials you use in your patch will hold water in just fine. Water grabbers will retain water in the patch, but there expansion and shrinkage may damage the patch to some degree. You can mix in vermiculite, but this is optional.

What should I use as a "casing"?
A thin layer of dirt, natural litter such as leaves or hay. Moss and sod work also.

What kind of pests are common to infest?
slugs, crickets, kittypillars...

How do I identify and get rid of these pests?
Slugs leave a snotty, thin, winding trail where ever they go. The antidote is to leave a bowl of beer, which attracts them to there death. For all other crawling insects, use a circle of Dolomite (non-posionous) around your patch. If you have persistant problems, you may wish to stop using grain to spawn with.

Yes.

**When can I start my outdoor crop?**
For cubensis, the weather should be warm. I consider warm being able to stay outside without longsleeve shirts or extra jackets and beanie type head warmers. Warm is comfortable with pants or shorts.

What species can be grown outside besides psilocybe cubensis?


Panaelous sublateous (sp)
Psilocybe azurescens (sp)


those are the ones i know of, just add the rest when you compile

Well. Some strains have been so domesticated, like B+ and the PF classic, they may actually have trouble with dung, being so used to BRF.
Um, would anyone back me up on this, or should I just add what he said to the FAQ and shut the heck up? : )

Can you introduce P. cubensis to a geographic location in which they are normally not seen (such as NE US) or would it be more advantageous to use a different species, like Panaelous sublateous, which naturally occurs in this region?

Cubensis spores fed to cattle in Washington and Oregon State in the spring, produces a few cubies in manure before the fall months in hot rainy spells, howevver they never return the following year. IT is not their climate or region to grow.

I tried on several ocassions otop fruit P. cubies in Hawaiian fields and had no success over a 7 year period of attemplng to do this. They would not take. Even when feeding the prints to cattle at the experimental farm on the north shroe of Oahu near Sunset Beach. Only the Copelandia's and Pn, subbalteatus grow there, and the Amanita muscria on Kuaui inthe imported flash pines.

psilocybe cyanescens (caramel caps) can be grown oudoors on woodchips and saw dust. growing parameters are found in both stamets books, the mushroom cutivator and growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms
