is it possible to grow these mushrooms indoors ?? ive been searching the forums and internet and i cant really find anything on growing them... I love these shrooms they are just so damned good. In Poland all people do is pick these shrooms. I found them in the Polish Deli but they are like 17$ a jar, and ive already gone through half the jar just after one day. if anyone knows any info on growing these i would greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunatly Xerocomus Badius is a Mycorrhizal mushroom. It forms a symbiotic relationship with certain trees. The mushroom mycelium cases root tips this is called ectomycorhizal. They exchange nutriens and minerals with the help of a complex reaction. So in otherwords it is not possible to produce fruitbodies in a man made enviroment. There are alternatives though. The so called sattelite technique can be used to creat trees "infected" with mushrooms mycelia. Inorder to do this you would first have to find a tree which has Xerocomus Badius growing around it, once located you can take a sappling of the same specie of tree and plant it in the same spot. With some luck and a few years of patience the mycelium might hop over to your sappling which can then be transplanted to a more convenient location. Note that this doesnt always work, and even if it does and ectomycorhizal formation is noticed the new enviroment has to be suitable for fruitbody production.

I'm sure ive read somewere something about this species being not totally mycorrhizal. I guess the reason it stuck in my mind was that at the time I thought it did seem to be a very strange claim to make, given what we do know about Boletes I think it was based on someones observation of fruitings of these in areas long after the host trees had died. or something like that. Gotta find where I read it now.
I'm not claiming that it could be cultivated indoors or that the above claim is true, but it's just funny given this thread.
I've never eaten or seen X.badius (Boletus badius) in real life but it always looks to me like a beautiful Mushroom.
I'd very much appreciate prints of this species if anyone has access to some.

Thats pretty interesting, i would love some more info on that or the source of this information. To my knowledge no Boletes have been cultivated indoors yet but i may very well be wrong. X. badius is a great edible, the flesh can stain pale blue when sliced or damaged, the arome resembles fruits somewhat. Ill make prints next season, i dont have any available at the moment.

i once grew the mycelium of bay bolete, its EXTREMELY hardy and ate through raw rice and unsterilized mud ( i wasnt serious about growing it, i did it to see what would happen and was surprised )
i didnt even attempt to fruit it though.. 99.99% sure it won't under any normal means

Bingo, I found it. It's on p.26 of a book called 'The Great Encyclopedia of Mushroom' I really like this book.
http://www.amazon.com/Great-Encyclopedia-Mushrooms-Jean-Mari-Polese/dp/3829017286/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196341704&sr=1-1
"The Bay-brown bolete grows under conifers, as well asunder decicuous trees. Although it grows in the soil, it can be found in among decayed stumps. It is one of the few bolete which does not form mycorrhizas with the roots of the tree under which it grows."
Vampirism I think maybe you should have another go at growing it. Deliberately this time. How and what did you grow it from, just mycelium from near the stems? You may be able to naturalize your very own patch of it in your garden...Worth a go I think.
Kocos, that'd be great if you could get me some prints, thank you.
