Contamination myth can someone clear up my doubts!
    #762729 - 07/20/02 04:27 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all I have two fruiting mycobags, anyway they started to "blue" at about 90% colonization and the spots never really got any bigger they just showed up in more places. Is this normal? The color is definatly blue not some form of green as i first thought it was, I'd post a pic but don't have a digi cam. Also the myth I'd like to know about is that: Cakes won't fruit if they are contaminated thus meaning my friuting mycobags are not contamed, is this correct?

Thanks for helping a newbie out!

depends on how badly they are contam'd, and what kind of contam it is.
but yeah, contam'd cakes, etc. can still fruit.

Contaminated cakes and bags DO fruit, so if its contaminated, don't eat them.

As for the bluing spots in your bag, its prolly where they have been handled, and have 'bruised'.

Good luck

well, alot of times the contams attacks as fruiting is already underway.
other times there's a need to get some fruitbodies so a tissue culture can be taken to save the strain.
or maybe it's just a minor harmless contam,
and why should they lose everything ?

IMO a cake is not much of a loss anyway. A giant try of spawned dung contaminated is a real loss
