Forgiveness versus Pardon
    #7583000 -

I think that asking for forgiveness is, in reality, a way to avoid admitting crimes we may be seeking a pardon for.

I personally think that it is between the parties involved and God isn't going to grant a blanket pardon for every misdeed (I could be wrong)

I certainly don't think it is reasonable to expect forgiveness or pardon without confessing, but that is what I think people want.

Do you think people deserve pardons without confessions?

Well, first off we need to straighten out how you are using the terms forgiveness and pardon.
They really are not interchangeable, and have different meanings.

It is generally recognized that a pardon or reprieve is granted to a person that has been convicted of an offense (guilt or innocence is not the issue) by a monarch or head of state.

Forgiveness is more complicated because the definition is interpreted with variations by virtually every religion and spiritual or non spiritual philosophy. Essentially forgiveness can be applied without a crime, (or wrong doing) just some sense of wrong by one or more parties. The forgiveness of or by people is wide open to interpretation by the subjective feelings of one who feels wronged, and one who may or may not deem a wrong has been committed.

You are a fortunate person indeed, if you can begin each day accepting the fact that during that day there will be ups and downs, good breaks and bad ones, disappointments, surprises, and unexpected turns of events.

When you have solved all the mysteries of life you long for death, for it is but another mystery of life.

I've read of instances where pardons were given from heads-of-state upon assuming office. In that case I assume a pardon could be given to an inmate who was incarcerated and yet had never admitted a crime.

So in that sense I suppose (based on subjective estimation of character) pardons have been given without confession.
