I think Jim Morrison said something along the lines of 'One day, all music will be created by a man surrounded by machines'.
Only recently that has become apparent to me.
As a guitarist and working musician I suppose I was naturally going to resist electronic music, what with the silly licensing laws in England making things that little bit harder. But it is only in the last few months that I have become enamoured with electronically created music.
Hip-hop, D&B, House, minimalsit techno, I'm currently fascinated with it all.
I studied music at university and for one part studied 20th century experimental composers ( to y'all americans for sticking it to the man ('the man' being europe's cultural and artistic dominance in the early 20th century)). But I quickly realised that listening to minimalism and such can get very boring. But what I have come to realise is that modern elctronic music in its various forms is basically built upon those very principals pioneered by Riech and Cage and their ilk. But what modern electronic music has is a context, that context being the medium of entertainment. The music is essentially their to dance to, and it is this very context which allows it to be an endlessly fascinating modern form of art.
Anyways, back to the subject: I really like the latest LCD soundsystem record. Bloody loads in fact.

I wish I was a working musician, but i'm like 18 and the only instrument I have any intention of every playing is the cello

Yeah, electronic is slowly pulling ahead into the lead. Don't get me wrong, I like the standard 5 piece band. Drums, bass, 2 guitars and singer. But we've heard all of those sounds before. Guitars sound like guitars, drums like drums. It's only electronically we can conjure up new and distinct sounds that are new to the ear. Hence why it is taking the flame and running with it.

Yeah, well said.
But the beautifal thing is that live music is very unlikely to die anytime soon. As diverse a pallet it has, electronic music still has its limits, just as music made with human hands does. Ultimately they both cover for each other.
