A question about azures.
    #7480909 - 10/03/07 12:37 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Im looking into an outoor patch of azures and live in the incorrect climate to grow them outdoors. I am working on a timeline to spawn them and inoculate them onto chips indoors and fruit them outside as soon as the snow melts is this an option for me? any help is appreciated.

Edited to reflect the actual subject in the subject line.

I take it you live in a climate thats too cold.

I know several growers have success by growing woodlovers in plastic storage boxes (the kind that stacks) who take them indoors for growth and outdoors for fruiting.

It sounds to me (but get a second opinion from more seasoned growers) that you could grow woodlovers in storage boxes indoors and then take the stacks out with appropriate weather to fruit. All you need would be boxes that are fully colonized, and temperatures between 5-10'C for fruiting. A box would take several months indoors to fully colonize, my cyans took about 5 months but cyans are slow growers.

Rye works great, but I'd stick with hardwoods.

No. After the last frost in spring. Spawn the woodchips you've colonized over the winter into the outdoor bed, so it can colonize all summer in order to fruit by fall.

For some reason, I thought you were planning to use the walnut shells, not the wood itself.
