Lucid dream

Last night while I was dreaming it occurred to me that I was dreaming. To prove that I was dreaming I looked at my hand to check how many fingers I had (I've read that in dreams your fingers are all messed up, and that is a good way to tell if you are dreaming or not) So I see my hand and all my fingers are doubled. "Cool!" I think, "I'm dreaming!" I tried to use it to my advantage, but I still couldn't do anything I wanted. And as soon as it came it disappeared.
Does anyone have any experiences with lucid dreaming and how to utilize it better?

I love lucid dreaming! without even knowing about it, I mastered lucid dreaming as a kid. I would fly around and do other amazing things you can do while lucid dreaming. The best way to become lucid is to be aware of your surroundings. Find clues that would lead you to realize you are dreaming. IE look at your watch, flip lights on or off, pinch yourself, slap yourself. If any minor detail in your dream doesn't make sense, question it and you may become lucid. Once you become lucid, attempt to levitate yourself.

I haven't had many lucid dreams lately but I remember my first handful of lucid dreaming experiences being a bit frustrating. I would try so hard to fly but always fall back to the ground. It takes a lot of lucid dream practice to be able to realize and accept that the rules of everyday reality don't apply.
Gravity was a huge obstacle. I knew I was dreaming and I knew I could overcome the imaginary gravity that held me down, but it continued to keep me grounded. Took me a long time to get over that.
You'll never be able to completely control your dreams in every aspect. But its fascinating to become lucid and explore the scenery that your mind has set up for you. My lucid dreaming experiences far surpass my psychedelic experiences in wonder, awe and a sense of the mystical.

lucid dreaming rocks, i used to get sleep paralysis and it would freak me out until i researched into it and found out what was happening. after that ive been able to lucid dream because i dont get so frightened and if i do i calm down because i realize what is happening.

try going to bed and setting your alarm off for 5 hours after you go to sleep, stay up for a half hour then go back to bed.
also ive had some success with it during naps during the day.

I've woken myself up from a lucid dream because I was worried that my body was sleepwalking into a busy street.
Focusing on lucid dreaming will probably help you achieve it. I've achieved a lucid dream through meditation combined with kava tea.

When you've done it once, it becomes so much easier the next times you do it.
