Amanita Hunting and Preservation Issues

hi, first i wanna say i searched, read all info on amanita,  could find the answers i seek..
i got this situation.
soon the season i starting, and i am going hunting for Amanita Muscaria.
its gonna be far away from home so i want to preserve them while i get home...its gonna be like 8-12 Hours before i got home...how can i preserve amanitas so they dont rot on the way...

any info on preservation will be great.

I'd say your best bet would be make a C02 Container.
Instructions on how to make it are available, but I'd
have to link to Shroomery Competition to show you wear
it can be found.

It's simple! Just bring a big cooler, and fill it with ice packs or bags of ice before you leave the hunting spot (buy it at some mini mart, so it doesn't melt before you even find any mushrooms), and make sure to bring paper bags to store the mushrooms in, inside of the cooler.
That is what i do and it works like a charm!

I got a small cooler...i hope it will do the trick...
it help meat healthy on road trips...
well... if someone knows if i should take only caps, or whole shroomes with stems...
i read somewhere that stems rot faster..is that true?

Take it all! Cap and stem. Most of the ibotenic acid is lost in your piss anyway. Amanita are legal so you could just order some. I love my Mario mushrooms!

I would suggest slicing then up...and placing them on a sort of mesh or grid...so they get plety of air...they will dry that way and not rot...

thanks for advice...ill read anything u give me..i already read lots of material all around internet...
i wont slice them up...i want to heat caps(turned upside down) so they generate water in the middle...
a guy on shroomery (sorry cant provide link) sad that he just drinks that water and gets effect with relativly small nousea...
so thats my first plan of preparation....

Just drinks the liquid?? You'll be losing a lot of the alkaloids if you do it that way, and it will take you a lot more to get off. Not to mention, not every mushroom is perfect, and many, the liquid may puddle around the cap rather than in the middle.

It is best to start drying at a relatively low temp- maybe 200 or so- then once you can feel that the exterior of the mushroom is beginning to crisp up, you can raise the temp to 350 or 400 with less concern of the juices oozing out. Then just wait until they are cracker dry. Not bendable, you want if to be crisp all over.

My method does not waste the liquid, it is retained in the dried mushroom.

ok thanks, so now lets get back to hunting part...
does they rot easly...
i cant let them be in fresh air for like hour two...then i must pack them...and go on a trip 6-7 hours..
will they rot?..outside of fridge...

get a back pack and paper bags put mushroom in bag then in back pack. once home you can dry em i use a board

and leave it by the window its best to rip off the stems and let them dry seperate. if you dont rip it fully off that part will rot then dry.
