Fungi Perfecti offers pre-inoculated plugs where all you have to do is cut down a hardwood tree (ie. oak, cottonwood) or find fallen trees or stumps. But fresh cut trees have the most nutrients, especially this time of year, they are producing the most sugars. Wait 3-5 weeks after cutting the trees for the natural defenses, it has an anti-fungicide that it produces, to loose their strenth. After all that, you just need to drill 1.5"-2" deep X 5/16 dia. holes and drive their plugs in and seal with wax. Place is a semi-shady are and in 9-12 months you should have your Shiitake mushrooms. I have just finished cutting my trees and prepared my grow area. I will try and post pics and details as time goes by. Hope this helps. Also I have seen ShroomGod post on a straw tek that he uses, sounds like a great plan, but I have plenty of trees and time on my land so I chose this method. I don't want to hear any crap from the tree hugger about cutting down these trees, I gave each and every one a nice big hug just before I fired up my chainsaw :biggrin:
