1)In his method he says a good casing is 8 parts peat moss, 8 parts vermiculite, 1 part lime flour. Can crushed up Dolomite Lime be used for lime flour? Are they the same thing?2)Can a cake using the PF Tek method be broken up and used in ShroomGod's Straw Tek?In his plan he uses sesame seed cake instead of vermiculite/brown rice. 3)Can the cakes be birthed, and allowd to go through 1 to 2 flushes, then broken up and used? ------------------ Watch out boyz 'n girlz, 4 I B eatin your squirelz!!!!

I'm not sure about the lime question. I've never needed to use it before since I use fairly netural casing materials. So I don't know much about its use in a casing. I think lime is usually only used when peat moss is in the casing recipe, but I'm not sure.As far as using a PF style cake(BRF and verm) yes it will work fine. The only reason birdseed is used in this method, is because of its ability to finely break apart and spread evenly throughout the straw. PF style cakes will still work the same though. Just be sure to break up the cakes well and layer your spawn evenly with the straw. I wouldn't recommend using a cake that has already flushed once for the straw tek. It would probably work but you'd have much better results just spawning your cakes directly to the straw. The Lizard, [This message has been edited by Lizard King (edited June 05, 2000).]

I wouldn't use the dolomitic lime. It is high in magnesium. Magnesium can be detrimental to mycellial growth. Lime stone flour is better.------------------ Baldy

grind the cake into fine powder, in coffee grinder or blender, adding a little dry vermiculite if it's too moist and sticky, then use it for spawn, as you now have literally thousands of points from which growth will spred.
