thinking of giving straw tek (old timers) a go next, but the one thing i dont hear is exactly how much straw per cake should be used.
mind you i want to use a medium size rubbermaid, not super bulk growing...
whats the ratio?
thanks guys

You really dont need much to spawn. Im guessing I have used about 1 pint jar of birdseed for about hmmm 6-10 cups of manure....or in your case straw. Its really amazing how far things will go.
Well, now thinking about it, if you're using PF cakes to spawn your bulk substrate, you'll have to use a little more because its mostly vermeculite in there. I think people grind it up and use that, but I have never done that...

I spawned a big tub of poo/straw with 1 brf/verm cake when I first did bulk, it took a while to colonise but it colonised

A 10% spawn to substrate material is a good bet. I prefer 15 to 20%, as it generaly results in quicker colonization. 6T

Just make sure after your straw is pasturized and cooled that you squeeze out as much water as humanly possible before spawning your cakes to it and you should be successful.
Good Luck!
