Herbs/Drugs to induce Lucid Dreaming

So my little bro and I are getting interested in lucid dreaming. He's reading books, etc., trying to train himself to become conscious in his dreams, but he is also very curious if there are any *ahem* safe herbs (or whatnot) available that might, perhaps, induce a lucid dream state.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've never read anything about any herbs helping to induce a lucid dream state... I have, however, read that Amanitas can be helpful in doing this.

No joke - there is a hallucinogenic fish called a Dream Fish; JLF used to carry it.

I don't know if it's related, but there's a certain fish in Hawaii--a type of goatfish--that the Hawaiians believed caused nightmares if the brains were eaten. They wouldn't hesitate to eat the brains of other fish, but not that one's.

There's supposedly a whole slew of "dream fish" or "nightmare fish", including the Norfolk Island dream fish(Kyphosus fuscus)(...I think that was the one JLF were selling?) and the aforementioned Hawaiian goatfish...
Noone seems to know how these fish cause the effects they do, but there's some excellent info/speculation here for anyone interested:http://www.shaman-australis.com/ubb/Archives/Archive-000003/HTML/20020104-5-000154.html...
As for herbs and lucid dreaming...I dunno, Calea zacatechichi gets mentioned alot...

Valerian Root, Melatonin, and Vitamin B6 are all good.

Calea zatechi? I'm surprised no ones mentioned this yet ( i didn't bother to check those links though ) I have a large bag i bought sitting in my flat, but i get both vivid and lucid dreams fairly reguarly so i decided in the end that i didn't need it...

I have done a ton of research on herbs/drugs that cause lucid dreaming.
One of the best things ive tried so far is taking vitamin B6 and B3 (Niacin). Take both of these every night just before bed. The Niacin will cause a flushing, itchy redness of the skin, but that will go away after about a half an hour, and it will stop happening all together after about 2 weeks of taking it daily.
I have also tried Calea Zacetechichi. It works pretty well sometimes, but if you dont keep a pen and paper to write down your dreams, then its hard to remember them. Calea tastes pretty gross too, it horribly bitter, but you get used to it after a while. I think that calea works by doing somthing to your serotonin levels.
5-HTP is the precusor to serotonin, and you can get it at the health food store. If you take about 100 millagrams of that before bed, then youll get alot of extra serotonin, and sometimes that makes you have tons of memorable dreams.
But what has worked the very best so far is lack of serotonin. I have tried using MDMA to lower my serotonin levels, the only problem with this, is you get kind of moody when you have no serotonin, and MDMA is illegal. But when I did this I would have dreams all night, quite a few of them were lucid too. I would also wake up in the hypnogogic state (Your paralysed and your head feels like its buzzing) several times during the night. The hypnogogic state is what happens right before an Out of Body Experience.
But however way you want to start having Lucid Dreams. You always want to give yourself affirmations, tell yourself "I'm going to have a lucid dream tonight." several times throught the day. Ask yourself if your dreaming, even when you know your not. Eventually you'll ask yourself that question when you really are in a dream.

It would be an interesting experiment to take 0.5 to 1.5 grams of mushrooms right before going to sleep. You want to take just enough so that you don't wake up.
I will try it at the low end and give a report. Who else is up for that?

staying away from JFL might be a good idea, they had legal trouble awhile back, and we weren't even allowed to speak their name....
Also, I am near them in location, and I know that doing business with them seems to lead to trouble for people later.... but maybe just coincidance....

Doesn't do shite... in mine and others' experience. Everyone just seemed to try to remember their dreams more than normal.

Well thanks to everybody up there! That was all particularly helpful.
You have given us plenty to get started on, but, by all means, if you have anything else to add, please do.

i found i can achieve lucid dreaming anytime I want by falling asleep on two pillows, my face facing the ceiling and my arms touching my sides. It is hard to fall asleep this way, usually i get into the lucid dream and have to stop because it feels like my whole body is paralized and I cant move. anybody have this happen?
