Unfolding Nature Shop: Unfolding Nature: Being in the Implicate Order

I've had trouble sleeping for years. It started when I was 15. Now I'm 22 and its still getting worse. I've been on and off sleep meds for years and I found relief only in seroquel.

Two months ago my doctor took me off seroquel because he doesn't think I need it and because I'd been on it for over a year. Now I can't sleep for shit. Going without sleep meds has not adjusted me at all to getting to sleep on my own.

I normally go to bed around 11:30 or midnight. But I end up lying awake until 7am. Sometimes I get a couple hours in after that, and sometimes I just don't sleep.

The strange thing is, even after 3 days of little-to-no sleep I'm still not really tired. I'm definitely not so sharp, and physically run down, but definitely not sleepy.

I'm thinking about going back onto medication for this. Any suggestions? I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who have gone through the same problem. Thanks folks.

Also, because this is the shroomery, I feel I should mention that I have not taken drugs in any form for quite a while. If I had been using, that probably would have been the number one suspect as to the cause of exacerbated insomnia.

i have tried melatonin and niacin for better sleep. worked fine. you could also try l-tryptophan. what works good for me is to eat some good old cheese (natural source of tryptophan) 1h before going to sleep.

Without Drugs: You need to exercise to the point of exhaustion at least once a day... pref 2-3. Drink 12-16 oz of water like at least 5 times a day. Drink whole milk (helps replinish seratonin), and you need to eat more healthy. No more sugar all the time. Switch over to a high quality juice and get off sugar. Go to a healthy grocer... organic... ask about herbs and supplements if you want.. Just choosing the right types of food to eat at different times of the day can help allot.

:backflip:With Drugs:mjdance::backflip:  : If you want to take drugs... I say screw the doc. Earth makes great drugs. You can order poppy pods and make tea or puddy. If you have enough cash its really nice to take with some ganja butter. I used to take both daily. but for just sleep I would take the pod tea or puddy 2 hours before when you want to sleep.. then maybe smoke some pot an hour before you want to sleep. and this is seriouse .. its all addictive ... thats why I say just at night if its for sleep. Think of it as medicine.. not getting high. Be carefull and always research multiple sources.

Hope you sleep better!

most of that is pretty 'decent' advice.

though i think that your suggestions for non drug use is a bit excessive and your suggestions for drugs was completely out of left field.

suggesting poppys for sleep is just insane, it makes no sense at all. marijuana is lovely but using pods and/or marijuana to go to sleep is stupid really, and im not trying to flame you but ...wow.

the draw backs for using poppys for sleep would be far worse then most of the medications prescribed for sleep.

as long as you research the different ones you will certainly end out better in the long run

quite a few of medicines used for sleep have very to little cons, and more pros.

the suggestions you made have way more negative then positive.

Wow..

please poster do not listen to this advice.. atleast for the drugs.

as for the without drugs, excercising once a day will prove to be more then enough. other then that trying melatonin and such would be good before going to a doctor.

as for the use of poppys and marijuana, the withdrawls if you try to stop poppys is going to prove far more negative then the positive.. and more then likely you will need to increase more and more often what you need to be able to fall asleep.

marijuana (if you smoke it) is also going to increase just as poppys..you will need more and more. and it will prove to be far more expensive then just getting a script for a decent sleep medication from a doctor.

i dont deny that the earth makes great drugs, it does. some for medical reasons some for recreational.. these two being recreational in my eyes, NOT medical (besides marijuana) but not in the sleeping aspect.

using them for recreational reasons is perfectly fine, if you watch how you are taking them and how often..

but you would need to take them way to often to prove beneficial, especially for sleep.

not to mention that you could get someone killed telling them to take one pod before sleep.. What if they get nauseous and throw up? and choke on there own vomit.

considering that getting really nausous off poppys is not uncommon at all.

you can say its only for sleep all you want, but with the suggestions you just gave you are asking someone to drive into a brick wall at 120 mph, its a crash course for disaster.

Thank you all. Don't worry about me going and overdosing on poppy tea trying to get to sleep. Opiates have the opposite effect on me, they wake me up. I think because the relaxation that opiates induce allows energy to flow more freely within the body. Besides I can't afford drugs (or anything else really) right now.

The exercise tips help. I've been getting myself back into a routine of exercising at least a little bit every day. But its a little tough to stay motivated because well.. here's a picture of my physique in its natural 'no-exercise-in-months' state..

A few years back when I used to workout pretty hardcore only 2 days a week I was a monster.

But thanks for the tips again guys, Im already making progress. Now I am sleeping a good 5-6 hours for 3 to 4 nights in a row, and then not being able to sleep for only one or two nights a week.

I think this is a psychological thing, I've been stressed out because I can't find any work. So I have no money, and no social life to speak of. Getting back into shape on guitar is also giving some relief.
