sounds to me like the problem might not be the drugs you are taking to let you sleep, but the other drugs you might be taking doruing the day...

PEACE

:mushroom2:zippoz:mushroom2:

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

Cut out any stimulants you have in your diet,, you might be sensitive to one of them...
Ive just realized i'm sensitive to caffeine,,, ive had sleeping problems all my life.
I'm cutting out caffeine now and my sleep is improving dramatically.
Ive lowered my caffeine intake to nothing (withdrawal sucks !,,)

That should sort some of the physical reasons why you might not be able to sleep...
The other side to it is mental,,, learn to meditate and quite your mind when your in bed...

If you do both of those together you should start sleeping better..

Yeah caffeine fucks me up too, all it takes is a coffee or a coke at any point during the day and I just dont sleep. I had PTSD induced insomnia for a good long while, I really feel for you. Melatonin set me back on track, or at least helped a great deal. The drugs just either did not work or I had to take so many I was a zombie in the morning. You do not want to be taking melatonin long term though. Wean yourself off it and bring a in a lot of foods that release tryptophan (precursor material for the production of important sleep hormones) like turkey, have some warm milk before bed if you can tolerate it, oatmeal porridge is good too. Also a 200-300 mg chelated magnesium or magnesium aspartate supplement should be taken about an hour before bed, magnesium is a natural tranquilizer. You might want to try Valerian root too as long as you have no liver problems, it has a drug effect so you gain a tolerance. If your dream recall is poor try supplementing 100-200mg vitamin B6 before bed. I know it feels as if your body has forgotten how to just naturally drift off to sleep but it will come again given time and the right resources. Good luck man.

i've been living with this for a while now and seen DR's on the regular. i do everything right no caff. very little sugar. the whole nine yards. i do relaxation breathing. tried self hypnosis, meditation...you name it. its just when my brain says hey your gonna stay awake and there isnt a damn thing you can do about it. then thats my fate. other than that i am a really healthy person...doc said its gonna get worse before it gets better. thats the 3rd doc i have heard that from. that just sucks....i hate PTSD!!!! the good news is i can feel my body wearing down...it wont be long now til sleep, i know how long i can physically stay awake before i just kinda shut down...thats thanks to my meds...before i was awake for days and days til i saw people who werent there. a year and a half ago i was perfectly normal, i would have thought this was a crazy person if i read it then. i guess i am rambling...but hey i really like the fact that you guys read this and gave your advice...thanks!

Why is it going to get worse before it gets better ?.
I don't know much about PTSD but obviously it's a mental thing,,, the reason your not sleeping is a mental thing also hence the PTSD link..

Most negative mental effects fade, eventually people start disconnecting the pain from the event so the negative mental effects fade in time.

The other type is usually overcome by harsh realizations,, It's like if your suffering generally for whatever reason.
Things go like that for awhile, people get depressed, things get alot worse, then suddenly things start to click..
It's almost a case of facing your demons,, but no one's prepared to face them till the very last minute, when things have got that bad.

I don't know what happened to you but do you fall into either of those scenarios ?

I don't know PTSD maybe it's a different type of thing and i'm way off..
I'm wondering why they think it'll get worse..

Get a damn good night routine together, brotha

Have something to drink, a light snack, take a walk around the block with an MP3 player, play with a pet if you have one... do the same thing and let your eyes get droopy. Make sure that before bed you always chill out, relax and let yourself go to bed. Don't think and worry about shit. Do that earlier in the day.

I have some hectic night time rituals. But I've gotten to the point where I can sleep nice and sound without drugs and minimal routine... I just tell myself it's time to stop fucking around and sleep, and I let myself do it. I used to not sleep just because I couldn't shut my brain off back in the day. Now it's not a problem anymore. Maybe I just got lucky, but I sure went through hell to get here. Good luck, man.
