I stayed awake for two days straight a few weeks ago because I couldnt stop pondering what happens after death , the second night I took a valium and it made me tired but my mind refused to let me sleep.

Some people will say clear your mind , but I find it to be a paradox. Thinking about thinking of nothing... I talked with one of my professors about it and he told me something that made a great deal of sense. There will always be thoughts going thru our minds , the key is to just let them pass through and not take hold of them and analyze them. I managed to get some sleep one night and now my sleep pattern is back to normal , I have no trouble going to sleep and now even get that great feeling where you wake up and feel like going right back to sleep.

Valerian is alright, but melatonin should knock you out. In case you haven't heard..its a substance already in the brain, related to sleep. 1 3mg pill normally helps me fall asleep. But some people take much higher doses without problems. Melatonin.
