Blood Diamond
    #7136291 -

I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can safely say that Leonardo DiCaprio is definitely one of my favorite actors of all time. And with both Blood Diamond and the Departed, it seems he's really come into his own. It took him a long time to shake that pretty boy, I'm the king of the world Titanic image, but he's done it - Leonardo DiCaprio is now a man and no longer a boy.

Yeah over the years I've found myself appreciating DiCaprio more and more. At first he was just this pretty-boy they had looking good on the big screen. Now he's this good actor!

I thought Blood Diamond was pretty good. The Departed on the other hand, wow. Definitely my favorite mob movie. Don't get my wrong, God Father series, Goodfellas, Casino, they were all good, but The Departed was the only 2:30 movie that had me the whole way. I watched it about 10 times since I've had it and it's the only movie that has been able to keep me hooked watching it time after time. Great performances all around.

I think I started appreciating him when I saw Catch Me If You Can, and ever since then I thought he's been golden.

It must be fucken hard to do a SA accent and get it right on every take.

He fucked up lots, but shit it's probably the hardest accent in the world to get right.

I really thought he was awesome the first time I ever saw him, which was What's Eating Gilbert Grape? A lot of people dismiss that performance, saying "it's easy to play a retard." I think that's a ridiculous statement. Just because anyone thinks they can pretend to be one accurately for 30 seconds or so doesn't mean it's easy to do it consistently, over a months-long shoot, training yourself to be one character with a certain set of idiosyncrasies.

Great movie.

Yeah Leonardo DiCaprio gets a bad rap for being a pretty boy, but he is always fantastic.

Yes blood diamond is a great movie! I hope it hurt diamond sales also. I think it's funny when you see these rappers with 100's of diamonds on them and they don't even consider that they may have come from conflict territories.

That was the first thing I thought about after watching the movie. IME, one thing people don't give a shit about in the Western hemisphere is where their precious diamonds come from. Hell, even if they did know they would still be buying that shit up.

The reason I just started watching it again is for this.

The Vice Guide To Liberia.  That place is as or even more fucked up than the movie.

For some reason it didn't link well for me but just check out www.vbs.tv

There's a lot of great stuff.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly a girl with kaleidoscope eyes. Cellophane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head. Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, and she's gone.

Just saw him in Shutter Island.  I thought it was good but not great.

The ending was ambiguous and wanted the viewer to decide.

I already made a thread on that movie and how Session 9 was better.
