What's life like as a hip young woman living in Ecquador?

Do y'all have a night life scene, or do you mostly hang out at friends' houses?

Do you spend a lot of time outdoors?

hii!!! well...it depends on the group of people you are used to hang out with... I live in a big city, GUAYAQUIL, that´s why I try to go to the beach every weekend and I try not to stay here.. in this big city you mostly find discos with salsa, merengue and reggeaton...that´s not my kind of music... and lately more electronic music which I enjoy more....on the beach you always may find good reggae and electronic partys... I travelled a lot with my group of friends around ecuador, here you can find mountains, jungle or beach... you just take a bus (between $4 - $10) and go wherever you want... we love spending a lot of time outdoors... but believe me that´s not everybody´s story... in the big city people love staying here...eating in expensive restaurants... I rather eat a $2 dish with fresh fish, salat, patacones (fried bananas) and rice!! :smile: on the beach... city is kind of boring I think!

I can't see how city-life in Equador could possibly be boring,

but I guess I was right to assume that you probably looked for alternatives to the mainstream idea of nightlife fun in your country.

You mentioned that electronic and reggae parties are common at nearby beaches.

Are these get-togethers likely to include trippers or are drugs like ecstasy and cocaine more common there?

Also are there more ayahuasca enthuseists in Equador than in America?

Ayahuasca is pretty low-key here; it's not commonly used or known among any age-group.

believe life in Guayaquil can be boring... that´s why me and my friends always look for other options than staying in the city... there are sooo many places to go... nature spots.. i have a house on the beach where I rather stay on the weekends..
the partys I mentioned,  for example the ones in montañita (i´m sure u have heard about this little hippy surf town in the south coast), we used to take ecstasy or lsd... but cocaine is much more common around here.. colombia is our neighboor :wink:here you can find pure organic weed... our earth is very fertil.. everything growths very  easily.. this partys are on the beach, good music and very good vibe...
when we dont have the oportunnity to go to the beach, the mountains or somewhere else we mostly gather at friend´s houses and enjoy good music.. good weed rum and beer...

I would have thought that ayahuasca use would be fairly common among your peers.

What about local psilocybes and mescaline?

ayahuasca is also very common... but much more in rituals with a shaman... the jungle is the perfect place to do this... in the city it is not so easy to find...
I rather take san pedro because is easy to get on the mountains, same as mushrooms :mushroom2:

hey rebirtha... backpacking in south america sound great... which countries are u planning on visiting???... if you are starting and ending your trip in quito I recommend you to go to the jungle and Baños (a litlle city with a volcano and lots of adventure sports to try)...
are u planning on coming to guayaquil???... let me know..

I noticed in another thread that you like a wide variety of music.

You like everything from Tool to Miles Davis.

Are most of your friends as open minded about different genres of music?

Do you feel a connection to Latin music that is meshed within your heritage?

Are there musicians in your country that mix Latin music with jazz, soul, rock, or hip-hop?

As far as countries, I'm going to make my way down from Quito and through Peru, Chile, and then cut over in Santiago to Argentina. I'll most likely make my way far east to Buenos Aires. Then On my route back up through Boliva, Peru, and Ecuador again. Since I'm going to be in Ecuador twice, I figured I would hit the east and west side of it. I am going to be in Guayaquil since I'm trying to make my way to Vilcabamba to do some organic farming with WWOOF organization.  I will be using Guayaquil as a transfer point to either Cuenca/Banos or Machala and then eventually to Vilcabamba. I'm leaving in two days for Ecuador, and would probably be in Guyaquil in about 10 days or so! I am traveling by myself so getting to know anybody along the way would be great especially a Shroomerite even though it's short notice.  'll have access to the internet down there to keep in touch with people so let me know if you want hang out for a bit :mushroom2:

san pedro is much more common here...
you find san pedro cactus on gas stations as decoration :grin:
if you are planning on hunting mushrooms the mountains are PERFECT... lots of cows.. humidity... cold and grass...
i dont know any other girl who likes tool around here... I think that Im very open with music because I have travelled alot around europe and I had the chance to hear lots of music.. thanks again for the new music ...
latin music is very good.. but u have to know what to choose... there are also shitty salsa or merengue.. I HATE reggaeton... :thumbdown: the lyrics only talk about how easy women are...women as an object... i dont like that..
but dancing salsa or merengue is part of every person in ecuador.. is in the blood I think.. and good cooking!!!
I think ecuadorian musicians are progressing but they miss a lot... like u say.. mixing our culture music with jazz or other genres is a very good idea..

What are some examples of Ecuadorian food?

What spices are commonly used throughout the region?

Are there any foods that you might eat on certain holidays?

Do Ecuadorians usually find it important to eat together as a family?

food... thats something I always love to talk about!...we have aloooot of tipical food.. in the coast we eat all kinds of seafood...we have it all!!!... ceviche is very common (a sour soap with any seafood u want, it is served with chifles and popcorn)..rice is VERY important like potatos for germans... we cook almost all the time with platains.. plantains fried name PATACONES... sweet plantains fried or baked name MADURO...
we love AGUACATE (avocado).... in the lands or mountains they use to eat a lot of potatos and meat... with peanutbutter sauce... they also like eating pork a loooot
in the jungle they eat tapir and exotic drinks like CHICHA (made of several varieties of fermented beverages, particularly those derived from maize)
in the coast we love fried fish with rice, patacones and salat.... also any kind of ceviche... rice and beans with grilled or fried beef...

Ecuador Food mainly includes a great variety of fruits and vegetables, there are plenty of them.
We are recognized for the exotic fruits, high quality fish and Seafood and also the innumerable varieties of Andean potatoes. We use to cook Potato and cheese pancakes known as llapingachos, served with peanutbutter sauce.
The regular diet includes rice, potato, meat as in beef and chicken, and pork in Sierra. One of the most important sauce in Ecuadorian Cuisine is AJI which is a hot sauce. If you like soups we have a lot of varieties like Locro Soup though, with the ingredients like cheese, avocado and potato.

A normal daily food is seco de pollo, which is stewed chicken with rice and avocado slices. Spices: culantro, perejil ..
for christmas we eat turkey... and for national holidays we eat tipical foods..like the ones mentioned..

Yeah, that all sounds really good.

Someone must have been stoned that came up with the potato and cheese pancakes with peanutbutter sauce though. :lol:

I might fix a batch of those later, and wash them down with some chichas.

By the way, that stuff sounds like what we call moonshine.

indeed!!!! I think i spent almost all my money on food when Im travelling..
you should all save some money and come here to ecuador and try all this exotic things... oooor u can can some of them at home!.. not difficult at all!!! when I used to live in germany I cooked sometimes for my friends..
