Nuclear Weapons are Illegal?
    #700413 - 06/25/02 11:37 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

As the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the judicial branch of the United Nations, affirmed in its 1996 advisory opinion on nuclear weapons, under humanitarian law governing the conduct of warfare states "must never use weapons that are incapable of distinguishing between civilian and military targets" (emphasis added). The Court held the threat or use of nuclear weapons to be generally illegal under humanitarian and other law.

Does this mean that the u.s. can be taken to court for Hiroshima, or other incidents like Afghanistan where their bombs were not able to tell civilian from military, (there has been over 100 civilian causilities recognised by mainstream press)

Can any weapon distinguish between civilian and military targets? One of the main objectives of any war is to destroy your enemy's will and/or ability to fight any longer, if you cannot grasp this concept you will probably be defeated.

News flash. The U.S. is a sovereign nation, U.N. "law" does not apply and we should never bow to the U.N. If the U.N. would ever try to punish the U.S. over Hiroshima or Nagasaki, I'd be one of the first to put a .30-06 hole in some blue helmets.

If they tried to take us to court we would threaten them with our nuclear weapons.

Fuck the UN.

We were at War, it was called World War II. Japan attacked the U.S. Our generals estimated that the U.S. would suffer a million casualties if we took the battle to the Japanese mainland. Read a little history about how the Japanese treated their prisoners of war, about how they did biological experiments on Chinese children in occupied areas. Ill tell you one thing they did, they dropped plague coated chocolate candies into an occupied area where there were starving children. They waited for the disease to take full effect, then went in in full protective gear, grabbed victims and started to dissect them WHILE THEY WERE STILL ALIVE!

So ask some Chinese or Koreans about what sweethearts the Japanese were. Ask some WWII veterans about the island hoping campaigns in the Pacific, ask them what they think it would have been like to try and take the Japanese mainland.

The point is, strategically, dropping the bombs was the right thing to do. We were at war, a war more brutal than anything in Europe with an enemy just as sadistic if not more so than the Nazis.

I don't think people at war should try to be nice. Its war, basically it means you've decided the best solution is to fuck someone up so do it. There should be laws about cruelty after the war is won, or the enemy has surrendered/can't fight back anymore, but then the war has been clearly decided.

But anyhow, umm, yeah. Nukes aren't cool.

But it's OK for Palestinian homicide bombers?
