Re: Questions for materialists [Re: Mr.Al]

Consciousness expanding is what you see. It was planned. This physical vehicle has "taken us up to this point". Bigger more complex brain/computer was necessary for Understanding. It is very hard (impossible, not sure) to come to higher learning without a really good computer. Discrimination? No, better vehicle is more reliable, safe, and FAST... "I'm your vehicle baby, I'll take you anywhere you want to go, I'm your vehicle child...." The clues and answers are in so many seemingly innocuous details.Q: Why do they say that God is in the details?? A: God is one bad metaphysical "computer" (o.k. reality) programmer and he tweaks ALL the details of every program...

I have no idea what Mr. Al was talking about, but anyway, is someone going to disagree with any of the abusively stated, heavy handed pronouncements I've made, or do I not get my fix today? I'll just sit here and rock back and fourth.

Well, you are in TN so I'm not sure it's worth it. :crazy2:

Not our degree of it. Not in our capacity. Thats how we define our difference between us and animal.

Higher 'degrees' of something do not constitute *definitive* differences. I am looking for a quality that humans possess that other animals do not. Something that can objectively define a human as inherently different than a very intelligent, not very hairy ape.

Our particular abilities are what separates,. makes us unique, distinguishes... our degree just inasmuch as an artists talent occurs in degrees so to is that applicable to our discussion, its what makes unique. Its subjective i know, and can't readily be quantified, and is more deterministic then anything, unless you create a wholly objective way to test something without influence of subjectivity (being human in itself throws this off, you need to approach a compromise to achieve the solution) but this still satisfies that.

If you want an easy answer I'll say genetics.

It was a mutual choice.
We chose to tame them and they chose to adapt
As well as some of them chose not to adapt and were rejected or killed by us in the taming process.
With other words, they had the same amount of free will as we did when we had to adapt to other outside factors which influenced our life. It takes two sides for this kind of game.

What? There is no choice. Death is not a choice. its natural selection. Your still making it sound like some of them were like wow great i love humans. lol. it is NOT freewill. it was simply adapt or die and it was a mater of strength not choice.

"There are lots of things which we didn't know in the past and then we came to an understanding.
You have no evidence to sustain that we will never know. Or if you have please sustain them. We already know a lot (more than we did in the past) about animal consciousness and like I sustained in one of my earlier posts, even if awareness is on different levels, it doesn't mean that it won't keep on developing, like it did until now, on both humans and the rest of the animals."

i was talking about the creation of human species. There is no way in our life time well know. maybe hundreds of years from now.

you can pick apart my unsound metaphors all you want in another topic. be on point please!

This is not a poetry forum so one has to sustain (through logic) or at least clear and precise words what one has to say. I am exactly on point by kindly asking you to make it clear
Another topic is out of the question since this is the topic that has to deal with clarifying the metaphors you made related to this particular subject.

poetry? i didn't know you thought my wording was so eloquent! thank you! you see I know I usually speak with improper grammar and fumbled sentences. I am capable of proper sentences though! if you consider that poetry....go pick up some poetry books or something... and i want asking to change the topic...in fact i was asking for just the opposite.

I wish you wouldn't ignore my main point.

And again my lust for you to be on point Is refused like some begger dog for his bone, further castigated for my hunger.

too poetic?

I'm going to preempt your answer, which, I think, will go somewhere along the lines of "It isn't "life"". I want to know what your definition of life is, what you're interpretation of "awareness" is, and the axiology of awareness.

I find it interesting that we lock horns on very basic questions and hopefully we can learn from eachother.

Yes, we do disagree quite a bit. And that is an interesting link you provided. I am still reading but I guess I will clarify my view real quick and get back to it.

From my viewpoint there is "biological life" (that wide range of animal and plant life on Earth), then there is "life", which I consider to be "outside" of the physical universe of Matter/Energy/Space/Time, and it effects the continual evolution of the physical in present time. (evolution of animated matter/energy as well as inanimate matter/energy). You could say that "thought" and "life" are similar, if not the same thing.

Really, when and where is a thought?

That's true, they do fire in patterns....but what causes those patterns?

Genes lay the groundwork for an organ (da brain) that more or less organizes itself using feedback loops.

Yes, so, where did THAT come from?

Patterns, structure and organization occur in the presence of intelligence.

Random bullshit occurs elsewhere.

Patterns imply (at least to me) that some intelligence authored it.

I never claimed they couldn't (or didn't) evolve.

Well if they can evolve then intelligence isn't necessary. If intelligence isn't necessary I don't see how it is implied. Intelligence depends on the existence of patterns, not the other way around.
