Re: Cutting out Contam...any advice????

In order to be extra sure that there is no possible means of this mold to spread and ruin your crop then cutting it out would help a lot. I would suggest cutting it out with a steril knife down to the cake substrate itself to make sure none of it is left underneath. You can replace what you cut out with more steril casing soil and it will be fine. Another suggestion would be to make sure that your giving your shrooms enough air. Chances are that you've got high amounts of humidity and thats exactly what this mold loves. So you can either reduce you humidity level a little or simply air out your set up a lot more that you have been. This mold loves CO2. If your too afraid of cutting it out then either keep spraying with h2o2, or sprinkle the infected area with baking soda or salt. Trichoderma loves acidity, so if your casing happens to be a little low in pH then adding an alkaline compound (baking soda, salt) will raise the pH and stop this contamination.

Dont worry so much, look at it closely.. it could just be the cakes turning blue as the Psilocin and Psilocybin oxidize! if it looks like the mycelium is turing blue, that is probably what it is.. if its fuzzy and growing.. then :frown:

I've had success with using diluted bleach to eliminate infections on casing.
I just remove the visible signs of the infection then wet the surface with bleach, it never grows back.

At the low concentration that is used it is not a health hazard. If you think it might be, you should be aware that Burger King uses bleach water to rinse their food containers and trays.

Sounds alot like penacilin from what I read. I suggest you cut it out with a sterile knife, and spray with straight h2o2 (3% store brand). The h2o2 won't hurt the mycelium to much, so don't worry about that, but keep spraying the area for a while, and expect it to come back once the first flush is through.
