Gold/Red/Violet contam?

SWIM overfilled his water container that his fish tank bubbler feeds into and didn't realize it was throwing tiny droplets of water onto the cakes closest to it until one of them got a strange contam. It's a very thin, gray mycelia that's grown in the uncolonized verm. The odd part is it has a couple small gold colored patches, a red patch, and a violet patch. He's checked the FAQ & it doesn't look like anything there, but he's inexperienced. It's covering a pretty small area, so he was hoping that it could be salvaged, but first and foremost, he wants to make sure this isn't dangerous -- assuming he can get it cleared up before eating any fruits from it. If it had had a couple flushes, he'd just throw it away, but this cake was just birthed. Any suggestions about the best way to try to get rid of it? He's thinking just a little H2o2 & then salt. Is burning not a good idea? Thanks for any help.

I'd cut that portion off completely.
But i'm not a contam expert.
I strongly beleive in throwing any doubtful projects out and learning from it.

You're right about it PooPs, cutting the infected area is a good idea. You can try misting the terrarium with some h2o2/h2o solution, if it shows again toss the infected cakes. A tip, add some h2o2 to the water container, it decreases the possibility of contamination.

Thanks guys. SWIM cut a huge chunk out of the cake (much more than was affected by the contam) and then dipped the whole cake into h2o2. Hard on the mycelia I'm sure, but better than risk it spreading.
Then he rolled in verm & put it back in the terrarium.
He lowered the water level and put saran wrap around the edges, no droplets should be shooting out now.

Yes, throwing a cake in H2O2 (what concentration was it, most likely 3% if you bought it at a pharmacy) will damage the mycelium, but no worries, mycelium recovers very well.
I doused a casing in 1.5% H2O2 water-diluted solution, and it sizzled... I thought I had killed everything, but it recovered very nicely.
Good luck.

Yes, it was 3%.
The cake looks to be recovering & shows no sign of contams.
I'm sure that cake will produce slower & much less, but it's better than nothing from it.
Thanks, everyone.
