Preserving mushrooms

in my neighborhood, shrooms are hard to come by so me and my friends have an opportunity to buy them, about half an ounce worth, but we cant take them for another 2 weeks when his parents leave town. do i have to do anything to them so they dont lose potency and preserve them or soemthing?

Assuming they're dry, keep them dry and in a cool, dark place.

Preferably in something sealed to avoid mold.

The loss of potency is caused by exposure to air, heat, moisture, (and light). However, if your shrooms are dry and you just put them in a ziplock bag (pressing out all the air you can) in a drawer or a cabinet, potency loss will not be an issue at 2 weeks. In fact, they should keep pretty well for at least about six months, and the potency will only decrease at a slow rate if the conditions the mushrooms are being stored in are stable. Several friends of mine have stored mushrooms for about 10-12 months with no complaints.

(Also--just FYI, it's better not to store mushrooms in the freezer or refrigerator unless they're as dry as possible and stored in a vacuum-sealed container. Otherwise they'll suck up ambient moisture and degrade.)

The potency loss is unnoticeable; unless of course they are literally years old.

Ive had mushrooms stay potent for months and i bet they could of lasted even way longer. Just by putting it into a ziplock back removing as much air as possible. And then placing it in dark box.

I have a question to add on to this.

I picked up a half and had to keep it in my truck for about 5 hours. It was hot in there. I put it in my glove box on ice though. You think that will be alright?


Also, I had some desiccant gel packs and i put one in the bag with the shrooms. That won't hurt them right?

I think they should be fine. As long as they were in the bag when u put them on ice.

They don't go bad to fast. Ive heard people successfully cooking them with no potency loss.

Ya they were in a bag with a thing lace towel between them and the ice. As well as the plastic bag for ice.
