my 12 mile bike commute takes me less than 30 minutes. It takes 35 to drive due to traffic

I've biked competitively.

You DO NOT bike to work at 24 miles per hour.

Lance Armstrong averages about 20 miles per hour in the Tour de France.

3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

lol, i believed you until you said lance averages 20...mustve been on a climb, heh. lance has timetrialed an avg speed of 32.4mph
youre right. my best time last summer was 34 minutes on my hardtail mtn bike with slicks on. Ill be commuting on my brand new Jamis this summer, and yes, ill go 30 minutes.

ive done 15mile time trials this spring over serious rollers with an avg of 23, and i didnt ride at all over winter.

what kind of racing did you do, diploid?

...as far as this gas ban thing, however...what's the plan? can the oil companies expect record sales the day AFTER may 15?

Their's no competitive alternative to petroleum and barely any demand.  Do a little research and you'll find out that the majority of oil is consumed industrialy.  That's where you'd make a difference and they're currently attempting to do so.

The government is requiring a certain percentage of energy produced to be green by I think 2011 or 12. (I don't feel like looking it up) As of now, power produced from green sources simply have higher costs than energy produced from petroleum.  That being said, until green energy becomes an effecient way to produce energy it's only going to be a burden on the energy sector as a whole.  Which translates to a burden to you and I.

That's not necissarily a bad thing, though.  A good thing about business, in general,  is that it excells at reaching higher efficiencies.  The energy sector will see green power become increasingly efficient and subsequently lower costs.  The possibly of replacing petroleum is slim to none, until then.

Just hope Green gets cheaper rather than petroleum continueing to rise.

i have a feeling that we'll have green energy covered soon. Wind power is currently the same cost per kWhr as coal with zero carbon emissions. Wind generators are popping up EVERYwhere, and the technology is getting better and better.
there are MANY sources of energy. nuclear, geothermal, wave, etc.

what we'll still be screwed on, however, will be petroleum products such as fertilizer for our food, etc.

Petroleum isn't this big evil we need to get away from, more something you'll need to get used to. When petroleum is replaced as a fuel it will become a larger part of our lives in other areas.

Wind energy is on a steady rise, (possibly because energy corporations are meeting green energy requirements?) but it has it's disadvantages to petroleum currently. Petroleum runs all the time and wind needs... well, wind. You can have long periods of no wind and no energy production.

thats why they build them in wind-prone areas =o

personally, i cannot wait until we start seeing some nuclear FUSION reactors.

Well if everybody rode bikes then we could use them to generate power.  :flowstone:
