not what i was really expecting after reading the back cover in the movie rental place.... has anyone else seen this?

fun movie!
first time I was struck by this movie,I kept thinking of isolation tanks for 2 weeks!still do sometimes,would love to try it myself,although I don't think I will transform in some primal entity and go around hunting in the park!
you know the character is based on John C. Lilly?

Yeah that was a pretty shitty movie... The psychologist I go to sometimes has a sensory deprivation float-tank but its too expensive for my tastes, something like $30 for an hour. Might try it sometime though because it seems very interesting to me.

I liked it!he has dared to much and gets punished\rewarded with a mutation.It makes little sense but it fits in with the rest in my opinion,also sensory deprivation brings you to strange and difficult to describe states of being after all
besides it gives it a horror splatter turn,don't seem many ways it could have ended anyway,either him going crazy and schizo,or him starting to communicate with other primal entities,wich would be .... :rolleyes:

It's funny because it starts off like it might be going somewhere interesting, then they throw in a love story, and then the scientist turns into a monkey-man off some shrooms. It seems almost like they started with a good story, and then they smoked crack and started brainstorming about things that have nothing to do with tripping. The special effects sure are "special".

does anyone else think it my have been just released as a bunch of propaganda bullshit similar to 'reefer madness', i saw so few ties (if any) between anything that has happened to me on any mushrooms (oysters, morels, amanitas, cubes, cyans, etc... however it did seem to generate a lot of scare tactics about 'hallucinogenic mushrooms' and some of the bizarre hell and goat sequences could really give a person nightmares if not of sound mind... i agree with the general population here that it was a horrible movie.. luckily it only cost us 50 cents to rent...

i just had to say something about it though, i couldn't watch something so b movie quality, absolutely horrible, disturbing and misleading without coming here and saying something about it. I hate the fact that i've seen it, but i also think anybody who has had any experience (religious, mystical, etc...) on mushrooms should watch it just for the sake of the 'wtf factor'... what a truely bizarre film...

i'm with rono in that i lost a small portion of time from my life last night.... but like in the end of the movie when he's talking about how it's a part of him forever now, this will be in my brain for forever and thats fucked, last time my girlfriend picks the a movie...

fucked up film is an extremely poor description of this movie, if you don't read the wiki info before watching it chances are you wont have a clue whats going on.

I thought altered states was ok, but i felt the majority of it was pretty boring.

I watched it during one of my first mushroom trips.  I was with a group of old friends and we had a great time watching it. :lol:.
