Best State? Worst State?

Okay, not sure if this has been done before. Gonna do it anyway.
I've been to almost all fifty states in my short little life. And I really like sitting down with other well travelled people and seeing what they like and dislike about various sections of the country. I'm a strong supporter of federalism and think there needs to be more contrast in flavor between states.
So, if you have an opinion, tell what you think are the best and worst states in this great country of ours.

The best state I've been to is Vermont. As close to a utopia as I've seen in the US. The people I met there were generally intelligent, they seem to have a good economy (though not too upper crust a la Connecticut), and the landscape is motherfucking beautiful. Also nearly crime free. I also really liked visiting New Mexico, Colorado and California (but LA is fucking sickening).

The worst state I've been to has to be West Virginia. I'm not sure what's gone wrong in West Virginia, but it's approaching hell on earth. I've been there a few time to go white water rafting. And every single person I meet there baffles me with their proud lack of intelligence, horrible economic and educational standards, and total ignorance toward anything that goes on outside their trailer parks, save Jerry Springer (interesting aside, note how many Springer guests are from West Virginia). America has its share of scattered white trash (Ohio and Florida are two other gems), but in West Virginia, it's packed tight. Take Missouri's ignorant politics, mix it with Louisiana's terrible education system and twist it with Florida's penchant for bizarre behavior, and you've created West Virginia.

Hope I haven't offended anyone too bad.

Spent most of my life in California. Am considering Oregon at this juncture. It is sort of where CA was 15-20 years ago.

I'm not American so I'm assuming Hawaii is it's own state??

But yeah, I went there when I was maybe 12, and it's absolutley beautiful. I can see myself living my life out in the mountains, away from the cities and such.

NH is the "Live free or die state!"

The worst state I passed through in my limitted experiance was NJ. The whole ride through it smelled like industrial pollution (or Lynn, MA). It was giving me a headache as well.

The part of West Virginia I went to was a beautiful part and the people there seemed nice. It was a part of WV they call "God's Country," so said my cousin-in-law.

Yet again people generalize.

If you only went off the highway. You would only see what is truely the garden state. Every state has its industrial parts. Just so happens the highways all go threw it in this small state.

Mississippi is pretty bad. But I've only been to something like 25 states. But Mississippi is pretty bad. By grandma lives in Alabama, and the saying there is, "The rest of the US educational system says, 'Thank god for Alabama," and Alabama says, "Thank god for Mississippi."
Best state? I don't know. They've all got some good and bad. I think the best would prolly be Puerto Rico.

There really is no way to judge an entire state. Take Georgia for example, I live very close to northwest georgia line, and the people are insane rednecks. But I have been to jekyll island in georgia, and that was my favorite vacation place of all time so far. So I think its kind of silly to make generalizations based on state, your gonna have idiots in every state you go to :smile: They just talk different, hehe.
