A Solution to the Drug Problems of the United States and many other countries.
    #3358665 - 11/14/04 02:31 AM (18 years, 4 months ago)

The thought of trying to limit the existence of anything is absurd. It's bad enough thousands of animals have become extinct, but now we are trying to deny and restrain the existence of plants, animals and even various chemical compounds which are similar to the chemicals found in our own minds.

How are we, ignorant and greedy men, able to decide what is best for the mind, body and soul of us and our peers and the people who our country is trying to protect? It is obvious things such as murder and attacking people should be limited, as they are completely unable to benefit mankind. The only way man can truly become one and have a truly peaceful civilization is by making agreements and compromises with other people, like our forefathers originally planned and began to do. The thought of marijuana, psilocybin and many other harmless items being banned from human consumption is truly senseless.

True, factual studies which can be monitored on both a public and government basis would be extremely beneficial. A website could easily be constructed, and detailed reports on each experiment/analysis should be publicly released, and reported to various media sources. It could take many years to do enough research to ensure people are not at risk of any physical danger, and also find out what types of people and what conditions are responsible for bad reactions/trips, and then they could be prevented far easier.

Once it is known by all that a drug such as marijuana has side effects no more negative (And far more positive) than those of cigarettes and alcohol, steps can be taken to slowly decriminalize and possibly legalize the possession and distribution of marijuana similar to the laws of the Netherlands. If people were not willing to risk such a huge jump in the evolution of mankind, small steps could be taken to gradually decriminalize marijuana which could (On a level of statistics) be monitored and analyzed to determine if such laws have actually been beneficial enough to actually lower the rate of violent crimes, or just find out if there is actually a lack of increase of such negative crimes, while there are no significant risk factors of using the drug.

If only the majority of people felt the way people like me, you and so many others do, perhaps people would stop being persuaded into using more harmful drugs, which wouldn't be worth the risks and dangers of addiction involved. It is known that in the Netherlands, using heroin is looked down on by the majority of drug users, and by teens it is considered to be lame, or something only old people do. It would most likely however be possible to prevent the majority of the risks involved in using such drugs by having a vast, country-wide and solely business accessible database of users for only the pharmacist to use for the purpose of acquiring billing and use information. Each user could be given a reasonable amount of a specific drug which doesn't react negatively with others that they may be taking, (Which is enough to achieve the majority of the recreational effects) at a rate/frequency of use which is spaced out enough time-wise that a user would not have a tolerance, or at least not much of one. The specific tolerance and sensitivity of a user should be analyzed by a physician qualified to make such analyzations.

Users would remain completely anonymous to the pharmacist by using the billing system described in the next paragraph. The only exception to anonymity of a user would be when their personal information is essential to determine whether a person is committing fraud/identity theft to obtain more of a certain chemical, or similarly important cases. If someone is found to be doing so, fines and community service could be given to the user, and the person should be unable to purchase/obtain drugs through these recreational "prescriptions" for a set amount of time, which should be determined by a jury and judge who have been verified as not being discriminate of drug users. The amount of time a drug is unable to be purchased should be limited to a socially acceptable standard of what should by this time be far more open-minded and knowledgeable as to the effects/dangers of drug use.

To purchase these drugs, a credit-card style system would be in place, but unlike an ordinary credit-card company it would be anonymous, but equally if not more secure. The card will of course be swiped in a reader, and then only the account number and billing company should be displayed. A high definition image of a users fingerprint could then be downloaded from the billing company's website using the account number with this government authorized and monitored business. The users fingerprint could then be scanned and compared, either by eye or by a computer program capable of doing so. This will prevent card's from being altered to have a different finger print stored on them to match the fingerprint of a person attempting to commit fraud since the fingerprint will be stored on the goverment authorized company's website. The only way additional information could be obtained would be by recieving a warrant or similar item which would allow the revealing of specific user-related information for investigation related purposes only.

The more people who are correctly educated about drugs, the more people will be willing to allow them to exist in what would be a less belligerent and ignorant society. It has become apparent that we do not live in a society which has respect for misinformation after so much has been spread, and being so, without doubt eventually the majority of people will start to understand drugs and become less intolerant of them. The persecution of drug users has been a horrific event of our time, but like all others in history it won't last long. Just as the people of Salem learned that they had been tricked into murdering innocent people, our people will learn they have been locking away thousands of what were truly innocent men. Man is not without ignorance, and so we all must suffer. Together though, we can limit this ignorance and become a far more intelligent society.
