I've tried many things for acne. I suppose all have some benefit, but some more than others. List some things that worked for you.

I dont have acne BUT my friends who have had it have all had success with the medication "acutane". It dries your skin though so you have to use a lot of moisturiser.

i don't think any dermatologists even know what they are doing. all they know is how to write rx's.
next time you're at a dermatologist ask them what exactly causes acne. yeah its a little vague...

I got medication and cream from the doctor, and it took the acne right off! including my skin lol. But after that, my skin grew new cells, and all is good.

i just use an over the counter acne spot treatment by clinique...it's a small bottle for about $20 but contains salicylic acid (sp?) which helps dry out spots and then the layer of skin on top peels off...it's great
try a search on any product with salicylic acid...

The general concesus is, if you use acne/spot cream, always use moisturiser. It makes a huge difference.

I never had an acne problem but whenever I did get a zit they were HUGE and painfull...
Ill still get one every now and then and they always feel like theyre attatched to a nerve, whenever I toutch it pain shoots through my body...
The last one I had was on the inside of my nose, Now that was not fun...

True..
It's mainly caused by dirt clogging pores because the face is not washed often enough. Over time this produces the inflammatory disease known as acne.

anyone that says acne is caused by lack of hygeine dont know what theyre talkin bout. Acne if a disease, a fucking ginetic disorder man. I have acne that just stopping and starting to heal; i dont get nearly as many fresh pimples as i used to but i am stuck with these horrible purple scars that take ages to heal (good job i have long hair!). Anyways, its good to know other people are suffering to, i was put on antibiotics that didnt do dick, if youre really desperate tho go for accutane...but keep in mind that that stuff can really fuck you up, bad side effects.

also, dont do tetracycline, it WILL stain your teeth!
Chinadoll is right about the toothpaste tho, it reduces redness and inflammation!

Theres that prescription stuff forgot the name it makes you depressed and suicidal, all the kids who killed themselves after they took it's parents are doing a class action lawsuit..

I have thousands of friends that take it and enjoy taking it together. They are not suicidal at all.

There's a medicine called Dorx. Basically it's an antibiotic. It's a prescription med available from the dermatologist. It's expensive since there's no generic substitute.
Also, a pad is available with no alcohol, an antibiotic which is a script too. I can't remember the name. Cly......something or other
Most of all, try different dermatologists. One solution will work once you hit it. Keep trying different meds.
Poor hygiene does not cause it. My stepson is a clean freak but still suffers.

Yep, I had doxycycline for a while and it worked perfectly.
Makes you immune to anthrax too!

i just wash my face with the water that comes from the shower thing, and my face is nice and clear..maybe my shampoo cleans it or something when it runs off my head.....

I had real bad acne and tried the medical shit... i made me feel grose and i just hated it..cant remember what it was called tho it was like rubbign alcohol (i think). Anyway the only thing that worked for me was I try to drink a minimum of 2 L of water a day.. AND NEVER EVER EAT CHOCOLATE... My acne is mostley gone now but if i have over a chocolate bar i get HUGEugly things..
PS: Some people i know pee in a jar befor they go to bed and they wash there face with it in the morning.. A little strange for me but i researched it and they wernt jokin around..

I do beleive that products like clearasil cuase some sort of physical dependency, like you actually start to NEED it, or your acne will come back STRONGER than if you had just left it alone.
This is something I noticed when I was younger.
My treatment... just let it go! Wash your face with regular soap... It seems to work pretty well for me.
Don't get hooked on prescription meds for this kind of problem, it's mostly a psychological feature. People don't die from acne.

I was perscribed acutane when it was still experimental (I had to sign a disclamer and all that bull shit) and I can tell you this: It worked wonders!! BUT, here is what you have to look forward to: acutane CAN cause the following: Bone spurs (mostly in the feet and ankles), SEVEAR drying of the skin (to the point where, when I would smile, my lips would crack and BLEED!) possible kidnee damage, and severe mood swings.
acutane basically works like this: it tells your brain to stop sending blood to your oil glands (located in you neck) and thusly "kills" them if you will... your body WILL fight this to the best of it's abillity, so be forwarned. oh, and if your a woman, and are thinking about having kids.. PLEASE find some other treatment.. because acutane does horrible things to the female reproductive system.
