Sterilization of casing soil - question

Hello all...
I know that sterilization of everything, including my brain, is a good thing.
However, I am trying to find the simplest method possible, so as to do more tests for various strains, potencies etc than trying to figure out how not to be contaminated.
So the question is:
There are two different opinions about sterilization of soils prior casing. One says that is a "must" and the other says that sterilization kills all valuable ingredients. Whats your opinion? What does your experience say?
Note that I am going to use peat that has been previously refined with such a way, so as to kill all microorganisms etc.
Thanx in advance

Not sterilizing your casing material is not worth loosing the entire casing. Better to be safe then sorry.

You always want to take the time to sterlize you casing layer. It pays off in the long run.

You don't have to completely sterilize it, you can pasturize(sp?) it. :P

i got a question about sterilizeing the casing mix .... i have read you can get a bag from fungiworks ... you can use a pillow bag and hott ass water ... but would it be just ok to sterilize the mix in a preessure cooker for about a hour at 15 psi just using a jar ??... would it be better to throw a filter on it too ?? it's going be my first time casing ( could you tell? {=o? )

I suppose u are right guys.
I will definately pasteurize the soil in the oven, there is no need for extra risk and the method is quite simple...
thanx again
