Sterilize casing layer or not 1

There seems to be much controversy in this category. Stamets says not to sterilize the casing layer because of beneficial bacteria. While I have heard others say sterilizing the casing layer is very important. Personally, I have had better luck with unsterilized casing soil (peat/vermic/lime) But I have run into a fair share of contamination this way. Perhaps a test is in order of side to side casings, like 4 unsterilized and 4 sterilized. Anyways, what is everyone's opinion on this matter?

Sterilizing is just a precaution when I do it. I have never had contamination before a 3rd flush if thats any evidence to how well it works. Plus I do it because I am probably the most unsterile grower you will ever meet. Peace

I've been using Miracle Grow potting soil to case. I moisten to field capacity, then put it in the PC at 15psi for 60 minutes. I have several tubs on their 7th flush (yes, seven) and no contams (using violet's grass seed tek). we ended up throwing the sub out after the 7th flush because there is very little and delayed bluing when we bruise the stems.
One thing that seems to be helping a LOT with contams is that we keep a HEPA filter air cleaner running in the room full time.

I would not recommend sterilizing subs or casings unless you are spawning under a flow hood...
Pasteurize Sterilizing ime will lead to contams fast.

My sterilized subs go 5 and 6 flushes on average. Spawning under a flow hood is ridiculous. Why bother? You can't sterilize the tub. Man.
BTW coir is sterile out of the package, at least ECO earth is, Vermiculite too, they're processed at insane heat, all I'm really sterilizing is a pots worth of grounds per 8 quarts. It equates to about 5% and has never been an issue.
May I ask why you guys use all these extra casing and sub ingredients that contaminate? That's like saying "I'll do this research on my Pentium 2 133mhz 32mb ram PC because it was good 20 years ago when I can do 50 times as much with my cell phone. This is the best answer here.

Are you talking about growing Substrate or just the casing layer you sterilize? 15psi for an hour?
