Can you put more *your casing layer* over overlay?
    #763923 - 07/21/02 05:48 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Hey gang,

I have been wondering, if a casing overlays can you just put another 1/4" - 1/2" of your casing layer? If you cant, why not?

Isn't overlay basically a web of dead mycelium? Scratching
supposedly reactives the myc. thru the overlay to achieve an even
pinset. so recasing would just smother the overlay and any attemping
colonization. Maybe?

If you want to revive overlayed casings lightly break it up with a sterilized fork and re-case (your casing layer) over top. If you don't break it up first, nothing will happen. If this is a question about your PRs, the pics you posted look good.

No offence FD, but have you actually read the Shroomery FAQ?
In the last two months you have asked an extreame amount of question that the answers could have been found in the FAQ.

Read it... study it... You'll be glad you did!

Take Care

Frog31337- No its not about my PRs, yet . I was just wondering

Shdwstr- Actually i have read almost all of the FAQs at least 2 times. I ask question because i want people opinions on techniques and what worked best for them. That is pretty much why anyone asks questios that are in the FAQs, because they want expert opinions.....

No offence taken,
Fd

Deep scratch and apply a casing layer.
Works very well from my experiences.

Ya anno well i dont think EVERY mushroom guru on here wrote the whole FAQ. Maybe they have little parts in it but then didnt wright it all. And people opinions and techniques change over time.

Why are you complaining about my post, it wasn't that bad and im sure someone read something they didnt know. Tell the newbs who ask "Wazup guyz i wanna grow some shrooms! Tell me how!" to look in the FAQs...

Well, this is a forum after all. And conversation about fungus is what makes up forums about fungus. I think Fd's question is plenty valid could help out somebody else too. I agree, there are bigger fish to fry as far as needless posts...

Yeah, the breaking up of of the casing before you re-case helps a lot. Once overlay has set in you have to get new oxygen and moisture to the mycelium and give it something to grow into, i.e. the new casing material.
