Well, the title says it all basically. When you listen to most radio stations you hear mostly western music, be it current, oldies or classical.
There are however 5 billion more people on this planet who often listen to other music entirely. When you're smack in the middle of western main culture, it can be hard to get outside the box. And there's lots of wonderful stuff out there.
If you got some contemporary non-western music for us, upload a sample of it. If you can include the name of the artist and preferably information on the music genre and the country of origin, so if we like what we hear we have something to feed google.
If you have URL's for good internet radio stations featuring mostly these kinds of music, its much appreciated.
There's a world full of music, lets go explore whats there!

OK my first installment is a piece of Bulgarian folk-pop.
the artist is known as Azis and the specific genre is Chalga
Quote:
Chalga (Чалга) is a form of Bulgarian popular music drawing from Balkan folk traditions and incorporating Arabic, Turkish, Greek, and Roma (Gypsy) influences, as well as motifs from Balkan traditional music, flamenco and klezmer music.
So, a bit of everything that isn't for everyone, though all are invited

Unfortunately I can't upload .wma's or I would give you some Ali Farkah Toure.

No problem!
Download Audacity (free, open source) and you can do anything with audio a small recording studio can, including format conversion. Make sure to grab the mp3 patch if it isnt included in the latest build.

I'm gonna submit some local Hawaiian music. I think it's far enough west to be considered non-western :-) Hahaha. If it wasn't for imperial america, it would be its own country (but that's another post....).
Here is a track by a cool Hawaiian band called Kupa'aina; translates roughly to "simple island people." Song is called "overload on automation" and is you listen closely to the dudes words you'll hear some wonderful generalizations of white people.
Aloha! If I get some good vibes I'll share a few other tracks by some other artists.

Blargh, uploading won't work, so I'll just name them. First, there's and Icelandic band called Sigur Rós. My two favorite albums by them are Ágætis Byrjun and ( ). There's also Dungen, which is a Swedish band. My favorite album by them is Ta Det Lugnt.
I'll try to see if I can upload some good tracks. The torrents are nearly dead to, but I'll see what I can do.
