can't sleep

what is the deal? last night i got off of work, put in a movie.. downed a bottle of merlot, 2 tylenol pm, and a 20mg oxy .. hours later i still can't fall asleep. i just put up with it until 5 am when i started drifting in and out, never fully falling asleep. today i feel like a zombie. this is lame.

Your brain is overactive. Welcome to my world. I can't remember the last time I went to sleep before 2 AM, I don't go out and party during the week. Just watch movies, write on here, write blogs, listen to music, smoke pot. All of that gets my mind very active. It will catch up to you. Make sure your body stays active too during the day. That's what will put you to sleep.

also, have you tried reading in bed when you cant sleep?
and damn: a bottle merlot, Tylenol pm, and oxyc. would put me out for a longgg time

If I find myself fatigued but cant fall asleep reading for a short amount of time makes my eyes very heavy and I just pass out

when you drink alcohol, it converts into sugar within a few hours of drinking, and sugar acts as a stimulant ... this is often why people can pass out drunk and wake up an hour or two later and find they can't sleep at all. drinking a whole bottle of merlot is enough sugar to completely negate any sleep-inducing effects of Tylenol PM and even an Oxycontin, especially if you have tolerance ...

sugar is prime suspect ESPECIALLY when you are completely exhausted and still unable to hit deep sleep, only floating in and out ... it's one of the worst feelings in the world, I know.

drinking water around the same time you are drinking alcohol will flush the toxins faster from your body without getting you any less drunk, meaning less of a hang-over and a better night's rest.

juice is also a good choice for boosting energy and vitality the morning after, but I wouldn't recommend drinking it the night of, as it also has loads of sugar and, in combination with alcohol, is sure to ruin your entire night ...

opiates don't work for me as a sleep aid. sure, with enough of them i just fade out and nod off, but even that isn't really sleep - i can do a bunch of oxy or h and won't be able to sit up or keep my eyes open, but end up laying in bed for hours and hours scratching myself and rolling around a bit.

more than any sleep-aid drug, i'd recommend eating a good meal maybe 4 some hours before you want to go to bed, and then going for a run/bike-ride/swim a few hours before you want to sleep. then come home and read (not in bed, but in a chair) for an hour or so as your heart-rate slows down from the exercise. should put you to bed like a baby. good diet + exercise solves most people's insomnia better than drugs. drugs will knock you out, sure, but often wont give you restfull sleep, and it's easy to grow dependent on them to be able to fall asleep, which in the long run will leave you worse off than bfor

oh lord i wish i had a few bowls of dank to smoke :sad: i believe that would help the problem.

i haven't slept well at all for 4 or 5 nights now .. i don't take opiates often, tylenol pm is gone, and cut off the wine, only had a couple beers last night. i'm thinking about melatonin but i've heard weird things about the side effects. and i figure it's to the point now where i'm so exhausted that i'm bound to get a good night's rest pretty soon!

Krishna: you get the scratchies too? i hate that.. my back itches like crazy if i eat too many opiates. it's quite annoying.

p.s. to you exercise freaks, i did a 4 mile run yesterday, and my job is quite physical (food server) i was completely beat physically and mentally yet still couldn't sleep, so i don't think that's the problem.
