why not? thats the question. when you feel like youll be dead within months who cares if you die with a few scars. it hurt a little bit for a few seconds and then you feel fine, and after a while you become so desensitized to it anyway. i never did it with suicide or attention in mind. needless to say i regret it now

i had a girl who cut, i guess i was influenced

You don't find pics of hanging corpses in suicide help threads either and if someone did post about their struggle with any type of phobia I do feel that posting pics about the subject of their phobia in the thread created is cruel and insensitive.

This thread wasn't a cutting help thread, now was it? It was a thread created by someone interested in understanding the phenomenon. I fail to understand why providing a picture of the phenomenon would not help build an understanding of the phenomenon. Sure, the text they inscribed on themself wasn't the most tasteful as far as a picture of the phenomenon is concerned, but its incidental.

To myself, the picture is a perfect portrayal of the phenomenon, considering that it depicts it. Obviously the picture is intense and might be difficult for sensitive individuals to see, but I couldn't imagine it is any different from looking at one's arm after one has done it. Its the reality of the situation.

Personally, I look at that image and say to myself "Damn there has to be more constructive manners to release tension in oneself than that". That's just my opinion, however.

As far as whether or not the picture is agansit the rules of this forum, we'd need input from trendal, boO, or zippoz...

The scariest thing about cutters and people with eating disorders is that there are groups online where they all go to encourage each other to keep up with their behavior. That everyone who is telling them to stop just don't understand them. They find people with their similar problems and all decide to spiral together. It's a weird dynamic, and I don't understand it. I come on here to better myself, and they go on to worsen themselves. If you get a chance, check out a pro-ana or pro-mia website and see the pics they share with each other for inspiration and read some of the fasting tips they give one another. Scary. It's good to take that pic down, you never know who will take inspiration from that.

Interesting thoughts. I agree, the picture needed to come down because this is a forum in which people's needs need to be met when expressed to a certain extent. People who are struggling with opportunties for growth need to feel comfortable in posting here, or else the opportunity for change will not be as accessible.

Yeah...that was what I was trying to get into with the whole triggers thing.

Guess I was too wordy and didn't clarify my thoughts adequately enough.

I used to fuck this chick that cut bad. She was a serious looking girl, i mean they don't get much hotter. But she had bad scars all over her thighs which was kinda weird but hey from the back...who cares, especially with the ass this girl has. But when I'd be around for a few days and keep her dicked she stopped....i think it may be something involved with tension whether it be sexual or something else...its a release for some people.

I guess you could always PM one of the admins and show them the pic and let them decide if it belongs.

Well, the picture really was totally inappropriate. I definitely didn't expect to see anything like that in the 'Physical and Mental Well-Being' forum and the mods did the only right thing by putting it down. Maybe some people have desensitised themselves enough by watching daily news and all-sorts of action movie flicks, but thank god some of us still have a emotional reaction when seeing this kind of things.

What I also find shocking is the lack of empathy some people show here. Especially you psilocyberin. MOTH explained to you in details what kind of reaction this picture can have with emotionally sensitive individuals visiting this forum and all you can say in response is that you don't give 'a rat turds in a bucket about that' and 'please don't attempt to restrict my methods of communication'.

Now I have a hard time comprehending you're serious in your response, man. Really. Contrary to your belief most people who post in 'Physical and Mental Well-Being' expect to find some kind of empathy and understanding here. At least they don't expect to see anything like you've showed us.

Now I understand you're probably upset about my response, but try to understand that this has nothing to do about you. It's about people who post here and who can get hurt with inappropriate posts and images. If you still truly don't give a 'rat turds in a bucket about that' then maybe you really shouldn't post here.

If you can't do good, at least do no harm.

yea my ex would cut himself too. I remember once he cut my name on his arm. That I think is really not a normal thing to do. He used to tell me he would do it because it made him feel better since he used to hurtme a lot, kind of like as a punishment i think, but he also would do that before I met him so i dont know. I guess everyone has different reasons, but I think theres really not a single smart reason to ever do it tho.

I dont think a person has to pass the redtailedhawk test of emotional empathy standards to post in this forum.
why is it that I have to be desensitized? ever thought that maybe it is a handful of people on this forum that are overly sensitive? are you claiming that there is an objective quantity of emotional sensitivity one must possess before not being labelled "cold-hearted"? get over yourselves.
I really dont see the difference between what you are saying and someone claiming to have divine truth from the bible and excluding someones input and opinions on the basis of their own self-proclaimed righteousness.

If you find me shocking, I find you easily shocked. Why is it that we placate to the wants of the most emotionally fragile on this website, but have absolutely no sympathy/empathy for my posts?
where is the line, where does the downward spiral end where we say "ok, now that is just too insignificant for us to warrant censorship?". Are we going to show favor over certain issues, or are we going to treat all mental maladies with equal "respect" and sensitivity?
Now, three of my posts have been edited in this thread alone for reasons that almost everyone here who has posted has done.

first, speak for yourself. You aren't the voice of this forum.
Second, it isnt for you to decide whether or not I am serious or not, man.

really?

I have had three posts edited now in this thread alone, while the moderators turn a blind eye to me being flamed on multiple occasions in this thread. It is ok for Moth to whine about how damaging my picture might possibly be to someone, derail a thread, go off-topic, and start harping about my infractions upon this community, but the second I do anything related to that, the mods edit my posts and allow posts like yours further ostracize me and my input here.
Just so I get this straight, the rules of this forum, while unwritten (yet), basically say that everyone is to have deep rivers of empathy and sympathy for everyone but me?

so now you are dictating what is harmful and what is good? you, moth and the mods know that if there was anyone else who posted that image it wouldnt be an issue.
It isnt like I came into a thread about someone who was asking for help regarding cutting themselves, and was obviously a very sensitive issue. I would agree that it would be out of line in the context of this forum, but for fucks sake, this was an open discussion about why people cut, and my point was that at times it was used for attention.
Maybe my point was wrong, or unfounded, but it was an opinion nonetheless and it has been censored for this bullshit reason.
so are we to not allow certain opinions to be heard on the basis that someone, somewhere out there, god-forbid, might gaze upon it and start cutting themselves?
Even if my picture has been a catalyst for someone deciding to cut themselves, is that really my fault? spoons make people fat, and gun kill people right?
these are just words and pictures, what is to stop someone from misinterpreting my post, or maybe someone who isnt fully literate in english and mistranslates my posts, and thinks i am being cynical and insensitive and goes and kills themselves? is that my fault to?

I think many of you really need to step outside of your little presupposed world surrounded by eggshells, where you think the rules you made up are the truth, that there is only one way to help people, and that there is only one way to empathize/sympathize. You do not have a monopoly on help, opinion, or supportive input.
