Help with my casings...*slaps self in face*
    #6688416 -

hey everyone, I'm a little worried about my first casings...(could just be paranoid)

anyways..

so i made two small casings (Chinese food containers the ones you get with orange chicken) and  well i was stupid and i cased then put into incubator, then took them out, then thought i took them out to early so i put them back in for a another day(ish) :\ and well on one i see a some little white clumps forming under neath the casing layer (which is just verm BTW) but not many..

-i also tried to dunk one but i didn't like the feel of it..so i didn't do it to the other..(the one i dunked seems to act as if its just colonizing the rest of the substrate..but again i am a noob

-the cakes i used (crumble and case) were also about 90-95 % colonized..before i crumbled them and cased them (again a another stupid mistake)

-another factor that i think also has to do with the slowness, is that they aren't that warm, we got a little bit of "last effort" cold streak the past few days so my room temp is about 68-70degrees..kinda cold for them id say..

i know i was stupid to mess with them but hey you can only learn from your mistakes..

i just feel that i messed them up buy messing with them, and being an impatient noob :frown: *sniffles*

please excuse my messiness if you see it ;-), and if i left out any important details please just ask i was kind of in a rush to explain!

thanks in advance!

I don't know much, dude, but I would say just chill out and let it run its course. If you fucked it up, you fucked it up. But then again, you probably didn't so just relax, make sure you've got proper humidity, water content, and temperature and then wait. But I know nothing.

let it run its course and see what happens, you might get a few mushrooms out of it. you seem to have worked out for yourself where you went wrong so don't make the same mistakes again.

the only possible fuck up was not lettin the cakes fully colonize because the uncolonize part is like a nice "HOLIDAY EXPRESS" for da bitch trich, stupid hooker, ew

^^^^^^^^Exactly.

Just see what happens. As long as it doesn't contam you should be fine. Just follow the teks closely. Be sure to always colonize to 100% and then some.

ok thanks guys, the only problem i have run into is a little cobweb, ive been trying to get rid of it for a while but it keeps regenerating (so it seems) but i mainly when ever i see any big of it i spray it with h202 and it dies down, i think its like intwined withtin the casing...

oh and today was a nice warm day, and i came home to find quite a few more myc poping up, so i hope all goes well...

ill post some pics when it gets "photo worthy":goodluck:

I'm pretty sure thats not a cobweb, and it is your rhizomorphic growth.

no it is..or some other contam...cause the first day i found it, it was like all over the corner of my casing...and it looked like a small beard of an old man, like grey hairs...some times when its coming back i have trouble determining if its a hair strand or not..hehe cause i do have cats...

if i wasnt so worried the first day i woulda taken a pic...

this is also posted in the contam forums, but its relevant so here

well heres...an update..

the one casing with the cobweb has been taken care of..because i lifted the side up to see if there was any more growth..and i saw green so i threw it out..i wasnt even thinking about burring it outside...

and my other casing well i was bending the side of the container down to check the sides like i always did..and my hand slipped andhalf of my casing went all over my carpeted floor..some pieces had shit loads of cat hair over it so i just threw them away..the ones with little hair on it i cleaned and im trying to salvage...the container got ruined so i chucked it...so now im left with like 4 big chunks of casing.. im not sure if i should put it in a bag and back in the incubator to recolonize or if i should just put them on somthing(plate, dvd case) and back in the FC...

i also inoculated 3 halfpints like a week and a half ago, and 2 of the jars havent started to colonize at all...but the other one is like done colonizing (surface) im just letting it build up..i had this problem before too..but with one jar..im either thinking it was the jars, or the syringe(lots of spores clumped in the needle tip when i first got it..and presterilized jars i bought online)

i really dont think my casing is gonna work...i just dont know if i should continue in the FC or incubate...i wanna just throw everything away bt the one cake, and never try to grow again but i know im not gonna do that, first grow, failed so far...but i will try again just more careful...

any sudjestions?

It takes practice, man. Just keep at it... once you get a few successful grows, you'll get a procedure down, and then it's like second nature.

You learned to play fricken' guitar right? That's a shit-ton harder than growing mushrooms....

haha true true, only difference...you dont have to worry about contams with guitar

but i still dont know what i should do with the one casing that part of it got dropped...i put it in a ziplock bag and back into the incubator for now..cause i didnt want it to sit in the fc..plus i had to clean it just incase cause of the mean green i found..should i keep it in? or take it out and put it in the fc?

Not true!  Gotta keep your strings clean... gotta keep it in tune.  Gotta keep it maintained.  It's not exactly the same, but those steps you make in preparation are part of the game with both activities.  You can't make up for bad tuning with awesome guitar playing, no matter how good you are.

As long as it's fully colonized, put it in the FC.  Mycelium can take a beating and still produce fruits.  It might not be as good a flush as it would have been, but you will hopefully still get some.  Take it out of the ziploc for sure.  Without any air exchange, it's just waiting to turn into mold food.

alright well thats the thing it had a lot of casing layer on it and now around it sense it crumbled..and the ZipLock isn't sealed all the way..but

i basically have a casing thats been re crumbled like you would if you did crumble and case tek(he he like i did)...so yeah it was just thinking maybe it would be ideal to let the crumbles kinda colonize a little and then put it back in a container...but I'm unsure..because the chunks are like quarter sized..so i would have to re-case it i guess or like lay them onto a dvd case or something..which is odd to me lol

any suggestions on that

You can try putting them in a container and letting them reknit. You could also crumble it down to smaller chunks, which would help ensure that it would try to knit back together.

hmm thats what i was thinkin, i just wasnt sure cause i would asume that with all the goin back in forth from the FC to the incubator that it would effect the myc...maybe no fruit??

i just wanna try and save as much as i can :frown:
