There are two types of psychedelic listeners.

Those who like music for what it is.
And those who like music for what it stands for and how it makes you feel almost aside from the music.

Those who listen to the geometry and find use in anything but pop, metal, double-bass type bands, shitty rap, and a whole host of other well defined categories.
and those who find meaning in notes and rhythm and wont settle for anything less than brilliant musical speach while tripping.

I guess you are in the second category?
Well so am I, and I dont find that to be offensive.

There are more than two types out there, but that has some truth to it.
I wont be listening to the gorillaz any time soon, and you would have to pay me to listen to metal on psychedelics.

I love metal. Its just not right for what I want music to help me accomplish in that space.
I dont listen to metal often, and I wont be listening to it while tripping.

It has to do with where you want the music to take you, and where certain forms of music are prone to taking you.
Sure jazz and hindi music are pretty sophisticated, some people cant even understand why anyone would listen to it.
So it all has to do with preference.
Where the specific types of music take you personally.............

Every now and then I pop in a DVD of Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock, and that has some sick songs on it, espically just watching jimi play with is awesome.

Santana is also a really good guitarist and has some good songs I like listing to him also

I listen to a lot of ska and reggae, but for breakdowns I'd go for 108 or Most Precious Blood. And you can never go wrong on Floyd.

I have found that the most outstanding sound to listen to while Smoking and tripping is a very old Pink Floyd album called Ummagumma. Its is a fantastic piece of work, tripping while listening to this will definitely create a positive vibe. IMHO. Below are some pictures of the album cover.

Check it out, you'll be glad you did.

Respect,
IHS

Disco Biscuits- Wind At Four to Fly
Medeski Martin & Wood- Last Chance to Dance Trance (yea i know its a greatest hits)
Phish- Live Phish 13 (the white album part is ok, the actual phish songs on this album are outstanding)
