    #2344551 -

I like the whole vibe that Shpongle is, and I am looking for another group like them. Any names?

I'd recommend the band called Entheogenic, especially their second album (Spontaneous Illumination). It's very psychedelic, perfect for shrooming

http://www.trance.net/article/articleview/380

Other than that, my first bet would be the works of Klaus Schulze.

Where's Strumpling when you need him? Shpongle is the best music ever recorded. Go buy it and be amazed. Younger Brother is also made by Simon Posford so you'll like it also.

Shpongle IMO isn't comaprable to any other group of artists. Truely in a class of their own.

Hallucinogen is Simon Posford's Goa, before he teamed up w/Raja Ram for Shpongle.
Younger Brother is Simon & another dude.. Good stuff
Entheogenic's stupendous
OTT- Go buy Hallucinogen in Dub, it's remixed by OTT, or get Blumenkraft; OTT's solo. One of my favorite artists.

These albums es muy muy bueano.

you guys are forgetting a couple of the artists that pull off a VERY Shpongle-like vibe at times:

The Fireman - Rushes (Paul Mcartney and Youth.. don't get the 1st album get "Rushes" the first one is too experimental and electronic)

Ekstasis - Wake Up and Dream

Celtic Cross - Hicksville (Another Simon Posford project, worked with Youth on this one - Youth from Dub Trees/Fireman..)

Ozric Tentacles - <- Apparently Posford was very influenced by these guys early on, and you can tell what he got from them the more you listen to them - excellent artists, I recommend "The Hidden Step" for an album that shows you a wide range of their skills - From what I've read, Posford is going to be doing a project with a few guys from this group (FINALLY!) sometime soon

Makyo - Yakshini (This whole album is fucking awesome )

Infected Mushroom's latest album, Converting Vegetarians, is a dual-CD, and the 2nd CD is relatively chill-out stuff compared to their psytrance, some of it is very very good for Shpongle fans.

I second the recommendations for:
Shulman
Mystery of the yeti part 1 and 2 (Track 2 on part 2 is Posford and Raja Ram, using the name Hallucinogen still but IMO this is the first Shpongle track, one of my favorite songs ever)
Dub Trees
Entheogenic
Asura
Younger Brother
Ott
Hallucinogen

A few compilations you may enjoy:
Floatation
Relax Module 1
Fahrenheit Project

Another option you have is to listen to chillout radio stations.

HBR1.com

Both of these stations play Morlack, a DJ who spins alot of Shpongle-esque music. :sun:

you'll like Shpongle much better at CD-quality..

Its like Simon Posford said in an interview regarding mp3s, "I guess its good for getting the music out there, but I'd prefer that people listened to it the way I intended, not with 90% of the data removed."

This is more true for Shpongle than any other artist I've found

I don't know... I've listened to shpongle both on CD and mp3... and I prefer the mp3 because I can take it everywhere with me... if u get a high quality mp3, then you really can't notice the difference, all the faint sounds are still there.

Oh, another band that the person who started this thread might also be interested in is Infected Mushroom, the majority of their music is NOT much like shpongle, but the "experimental" CD on their newest album "converting Vegetarians" is in my oppinion on par with shpongle, I finally found out why i liked it so much. Infected Mushroom music is very synthetic and machine-like on first glance, but as you pay attention to it, especially on the experimental CD you will notice that the notes are never perfect, they all have some sort of imperfection within them which make them sound much more organic and the synnergy between synthetic and organic is like an auditory orgasm... in my oppinio it is very trippy I suggest you guys try it out.

I love Shpongle and dub trees, bu dont like infected mushroom.
If you expect Infected mushroom to be even compare to Shpongle in its texture or vibe you will be dissapointed.

In my opinion Infected mushroom is one of many hugely over-rated electronic groups currently being flogged to unsuspecting listeners.
They use basic drum sequencing and general sequencing that wasnt experimental to the underground techno of 1995! The stuff is often sampled in 8 bit and the sequencing could have been done on protracker on an Amiga.
Basically its 8 bit four tracked sequencing you could slap up with your arse in five minutes - a few old school 808 bass twisting and filters and the odd poor 8 bit sample to make it sound slightly 'psychedelic.'
I think Juno Reactor in general do psy-trance so much better, but i prefer alternate ambiant and electronic artists.

I notice major differences under the influence - A couple tripping friends and I compared them "blindly" and could totally tell which was which with 256kbps bitrate mp3s vs the cds. 256 kbps compared to cd quality is like more than half of the data just GONE, technically speaking, and it definitely shows with nice clear soundsystems or good headphones

it seems to test the limits of every soundsystem I've ever played it on in different ways

man... that's just not true, I don't know which of their songs you have listened to, but the ones I've heard and the ones I reccomended have ALOT of depth to them and are amazing to listen to, I haven't listened to them while tripping, but they're great songs, they ARE different from shpongle, but they are still very psychedelic and you CAN'T just slap them together, there is alot of thought put into every song, there are melodies within the melodies that you can only distinguis after continued listening.

Ive have the entire 'converting vegetarians' and a cd of theirs that has about 20 mp3s. I didnt ay they were anything like shpongle. I have friends who think they are good live, but their recorded music is completely indiscernable from what was being made in 1995. Trust me i was and still am quite big into the scene - in terms of sequencing and i can tell how hard something is to make. It sounds simple, they use shitty 8 bit samples half the time, quite old and unoriginal 808 bass twists that underground styles had done everything possible with by 1998. The only difference this has a bigger market and is heard by people who never heard the older underground stuff. The new stuff is basically pretty similar - slightly nicer around the edges by groups like Juno R., etc, and some 'psychedelic' sounds and samples to make it sell psytrance with a doof, and these kind of smaples are the easiest to come up with.
Mushroom are shit in every way - if you think they are cool and talented, id have to say that you must not have heard much in the way of underground electronic music in the last ten years.
If you want to hear some progressive drum and bass check out an old underground group called Bedioun Ascent - a song called waveboy - fucking awesome and those guys know how to sequence.

Alright first of all, Orb Live '93 is incredible. Secondly: Shpongle on an lossy audio format doesn't compare. If you must go lossy, go Ogg at the very least 128, but 192 is best I think; however, why not just go lossless and use some apes? They're a great format and compress well. Seriously, don't miss even the top or bottom 5khz of the experience.

Children of the Bong

Very good dub psy sounds.

You can download some off Soul Seek when I am on. Not very easy to find. I recomend Polyphase or Life on Planet Earth for a taste.

Also "Banco De Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa" is a good hour long trip
