Longest sitting meditation

I know there has been another post on the longest people on this board have meditated but i want a more recent one.

Possibly with techniques used. Also what you were trying to accomplish.

maybe 2-3 minutes, pretty much right after working out.

I sit with my legs not completely tucked, with my back and head straight, and my hands resting on my knee caps.

Not trying to accomplish anything, other than to slow my heart down/help control breathing

about 5 or 6 hours, broken into periods of 20-40 minutes, sitting and lying down when my back got sore

breathing and breath counting

i had time to use and was hoping to get some enlightenment.

Doing Yoga seems to reduce back pain during sitting. I've recently started doing Yoga and now instead of pain I just get a slight sensation in my back. I still think I have a hard time sitting balanced but I'm working on that.

I remember one of those threads from years ago. Mr Mushrooms had us all beat... 8 hours straight on a stone floor in some temple.

For me maybe 20 minutes...

On LSD, about 3 hours without moving. To prepare for my symbolic logic final, about an hour and a half. I usually do not require more than half an hour, although I have a feeling that I am being called to go within for longer periods, both with and without aid to my neurotransmission.

I havent really done it that long. but my brother that lives in a country in Asia went to this Buddhist monastery and sat down in an empty room for 10 days, without talking to anyone for that period, just meditating, pretty crazy.

I didn't really have a "technique" per se. I was just sitting and meditating to music to enhance the trip. Usually, while sober, I don't meditate for more than 30 minutes.

Cool.

I'm planning on tripping on mescaline this Friday in conjunction with meditation. By supplementing my mescaline trip with focused meditation I hope that I can experience the Summum Bonum, "God", Ultimate Reality etc.-- whatever that means.

Advice, anyone?

9 hours with kinhin for 5 minutes every 40 minutes, and a 1 hour break in the middle of the sesshin.

ankles hurt. i did use a chair in the afternoon though.

the purpose was the same for all zazen.

What is kinhin? ...and what did the 9 hours do for you in comparison to say...20-30 minutes? Were you bugged by the desire to move?

Normal sitting meditation for me was 2-2.5 hours, so 9 hours with a break was a hard day, but not too out of place. I enjoyed it.

Kinhin is walking meditation, which helps to keep wakefulness and stimulates the body. It essentially is the same as zazen except while walking slowly. You may have seen Japanese monks doing kinhin on TV without knowing that it was meditation.

I have meditated on a symbol for hours and hours. Many times. It's easy.
