My hair is pretty long (I'm a guy), probably about 9-10" long in the back and sides, possibly longer.

At first I thought maybe it was because I had been exercising more and, as a result, sweating more, but I used to ride my bike and work hard (and sweat buckets) during the summer, and washed my hair the same frequency if not less than now.

I had been washing my hair with shampoo once a week (Paul Mitchell One) and washing it with just water a 3-4 days later (showering twice a week).

Since I've noticed this smell, I've been washing my hair with shampoo at least twice if not three times a week.

Fortunately, this smell does not really travel so others aren't able to smell it even if they are right next to me, but when I run my fingers through my hair, the smell rubs off on them and it has become annoying to me.

I do keep my hair either tied back in a pony tail or tied up into a ball with hair bands, and the smell rubs off on those too. I let my hair dry out either completely or as close to it as possible before putting it up, and I let it air-dry.

Even after washing my hair (lathering once or twice) the smell persists but faintly.

I've tried rubbing orange peel in my hair in hopes that some of the oils would rub off, but that is only a temporary fix (maybe a few hours).

I would like to get back to only shampooing my hair once a week, if possible, as to let the natural oils in my hair buildup the way they are supposed to.


I'm willing to change shampoos, but I don't want any funky or overly powerful smelling stuff.


Has anybody had this problem and/or have any suggestions?
